PC-Based DVRs Enhance Performance, Integration

PC-based DVRs offer flexible integration and powerful functions. Suppliers are now launching new compression boards, video management software and complete PC-based DVRs to target this market.


Benefiting from the latest DSP chip processing and encoding (eight-channel compression with one DSP), Hanbang, HighEasy, Jinpeng and Thakral have launched PC-based DVRs with enhanced processing at better prices. With major technological improvements taking place every two years ⌒ MPEG to
MPEG-4 to H.264 ⌒ cost efficiency has increased by 50 percent or more.


Common features are largely related to DSP specifications, including real-time recording, CIF to D1 resolution in recording and playback, MPEG-4 or H.264 compression algorithms, PTZ control, e-mail alarm notification, remote configurable settings and 3G cell phone monitoring. Facial recognition software may also be embedded for enhanced flexibility.


Chinese DVR card suppliers are emphasizing hardware compression for higher performance with limited CPU. TVT capture cards use Intel Pentium III 800 CPUs, 256-megabyte RAMs and 80-gigabyte HDDs for its four-channel solutions and Intel Pentium 4.2, eight-GHz, 800FSB CPUs, 512-megabyte dual DDR400 RAM and 120-gigabyte HDDs for eight and 16-channel solutions. This
makes integration more flexible when extending number of channels and, thus, ensures simpler system infrastructure. Hanbang's HB18 series capture cards feature TI DM645 DSP chips. Embedded H.264 and patented multi-image processing technology support CIF to D1 resolution for flexible applications. PCI and PCI-E interfaces are selectable.


Tungson has come out with a new D1 PCI-E compression board series.
Its TE-208E comes with conexant 23885+25836 10-bit decode chipsets
that support one to eight channel video inputs, two-channel audio outputs and
one-channel TV out with D1 preview and recording resolution and PCI-E
slot.


The Thakral AVE 6900 series with H.264 compression and patented
intelligent image quality enhancement technology ensures better resolution in
CIF. It compresses images from more than 64 channels, is compact and has
low power consumption. Settings are configurable in each channel, and it has
water marking for data security.


TVT TD-3000, TD-3100 and TD-3300 series software compression supports a maximum resolution of D1.Both series have TD-4100 hardware compression boards for maximum CIF resolution and TD-4200 for maximum D1 resolution. They also feature real-time recording capability, one, four, six, eight and 13 screen display modes, multi-channel playback, and time, date and event log search functions. Monitoring images can be zoomed in on, captured, saved, printed and exported for backup. Configurable auto reboot and watch dog are embedded.


Skyvision IPDVR software is a hybrid surveillance platform for management of multiple devices, including DVR cards, IP cameras, video servers and standalone DVRs on one PC. The software features multi-site management that is compatible with Axis network cameras; it supports up to 64 channels of analog camera preview or more than 32 channels of digital video from IP devices. It also offers real-time recording (30 frames per second). The IPDVR comes with HDD pre-assign technology to enable a recording index in the database. It has smart search playback and isochronous refresh with Ajax, J2EE technology in Web preview and playback. Large platforms like NVMS, NVMP and TSMP are supported.


Linovision's CO-4000C series DVR cards support Windows and Linux operating systems. The CO-4000C has H.264 video compression and OggVorbis audio compression technology. These cards support real-time preview and recording in each channel,recording and preview video with QCIF, CIF, 2CIF, DCIF and 4CIF resolution. CO-4000C series cards utilize a fully optimized algorithm based on DSP technology to implement video and audio real-time encoding and motion detection, significantly saving computer processor resources. Its CO-4000S series DVR boards are for entry-level applications with CIF and QCIF real-time recording that support Windows operating systems.


Hikvision's iDS-4004HCI/P intelligent license plate recognition card features license plate recognition in Chinese, English and numbers of multiple vehicles and different plate colors. It combines all features of Hikvision's DVR cards such as preview, recording, picture capturing, OSD, Logo display, motion detection and snapshot functions. The accuracy achieves 99 percent with driving speed range of 0 to 120 kilometers/hour. The flexible customization is ensured with its license plate recognition (LPR) SDK.


Dahua's DHVECF series H.264 compression boards feature TMS320DM642 DSP chipsets for high performance and stability. Export datastreams are 32 kilobits per second to six megabits per second with D1, half D1, 2CIF, CIF, QCIF resolutions and real-time recording. It has dual-stream function, smart search and SDK for further integration.


Finally, Chenova's CF-ITDVR is a second-generation, PC-based DVR with H.264 and MPEG-4 compression for synchronic audio and video recording, real-time monitoring with multiple frames in four, nine or 16 displays, dual-stream recording and motion detection. It is equipped with smart search support for up to 16-channel simultaneous playback, isochronous playback during recording, active e-mail and SMS for preset and relay.


It also enhances performance and specifications of existing PC-based DVRs and software with a Linux operat ing sys tem. Fur thermore, CF-ITDVR supports RAID5 to avoid data loss caused by damaged HDDs. Equipped with remote control, mouse and keyboard control for easy operation, it also has up to 32-channel camera preview and real-time recording, HDD pre-sign technology to manage different channels for recording on different disks, multi-mode recording schedules, auto-adjust brightness, and day and night mode.
