Product testing: Unisinsight 2MP IP camera for small- to medium-sized projects
This article takes a closer look at the camera’s specs, features and performance, based on product testing conducted by a&s China.
In security projects, cameras with high reliability and price-performance ratio are the first choice for systems integrators. Unisinsight’s 2MP infrared fixed-focus box network camera is a leading model in this regard. This article takes a closer look at the camera’s specs, features and performance, based on product testing conducted by a&s China.

With increased demand for video surveillance, various types of cameras are continuously being introduced to the market. Especially today, with advances in artificial intelligence technology, smart cameras have become the mainstream in video surveillance.

However, it is worth noting that due to the corresponding intelligent analytics, prices of these smart cameras continue to increase. For most small- and medium-sized projects, smart cameras are not economical and practical. For some users, they prefer “non-smart” cameras coupled with smart NVRs and smart analytics servers to perform intelligent analysis, all at a much lower project cost.

That said, the 2-megapixel infrared fixed-focus box network camera (hereafter referred to as the “camera”) launched by Unisinsight has become a leader in this regard. The camera has a compact shape, features a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 25 fps, and has good night vision capabilities, capable of outputting color video even in low-light environments. The IP67 protection level allows the camera to be used in various fields.

Small yet with complete functions

The camera adopts a traditional box design and is compact in size, with an overall size of 155.1 x 81.3 x 86.2mm and weight of 271g. It can be fixed in any scene through horizontal bars, vertical bars, wall mounting and ceiling mounting.

The camera is made of environmentally friendly synthetic materials. Each interface is protected with a high-level sealing technology, effectively bringing the camera to an IP67 rating. This design provides good protection for internal components, shields the device from impacts by rain and dust, and ensures that the camera can be used in harsh environments round-the-clock.

The shield on the top of the camera can avoid interference from sunlight and rain, ensuring normal outdoor operations all day long. It is worth noting that the 2MP camera can be equipped with a 3.6mm or 6mm lens, through which the camera can conduct monitoring in different ranges. There are two infrared lights below the camera, which are mainly used in low-light environments at night as fill lights. The camera is also equipped with a mic, which can realize audio collection.

The rear of the camera is equipped with audio, alarm, network, power and other interfaces. The simple interface design can effectively meet the daily needs of users and reduce the installation cost of the project. The camera can work normally in an environment with a temperature range of -30℃~+60℃, humidity of ≤95%, and working power of only 1.2W.

In addition, the device also supports wide dynamic range, backlight compensation, strong light suppression, 3D noise reduction and other advanced functions, making it capable of monitoring 24/7 in all-weather conditions and in ultra-low illumination scenes.

High quality from within

Even with a simplified and compact design, the camera is still quite optimized thanks to rigorous testing of internal accessories by Unisinsight. The company does not sacrifice quality just because the camera is for small- and medium-sized projects.

After opening the camera casing, a&s testers easily discovered that the camera’s internal space layout has been optimized and components comprehensively selected, thereby reducing the overall heating of the components even under 24/7 operation. Working continuously, the camera can still output stable and good video quality. In addition, the camera has a protective design to avoid equipment damage caused by power short circuit.

The 1/3-inch CMOS equipped on this camera not only can output video with a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 but also comes with good night vision capabilities. During a&s’s testing, it’s found that in low-illumination environments, the camera can still output clear color video. When in extremely lowlight or no-light environments, the camera can automatically turn on the infrared fill light, whose coverage distance can reach 50 meters.

Testing by a&s further finds that the camera supports ONVIF, GB/T28181-2011, GB/T28181-2016, UNBP and other standards, and can be connected to corresponding equipment without excessive configuration.

After being connected to the Unisinsight platform, the camera can be paired with AR real-life cloud image, realizing all-round, all-angle and three-dimensional real-life map presentation. At the same time, with smart tags, the location of the recording event can be quickly identified.

In addition, the camera allows the user to set up 4 areas of interest and 8 video blocking areas. This can effectively improve the situational awareness of operators and avoid false alarms caused in non-monitoring areas.

a&s review:

With increased demand for AI in video surveillance, smart cameras have gradually become the mainstream monitoring equipment in the market. However, the practicality of using smart cameras in different projects has been called into question. Especially for small- and medium-sized projects, employing smart cameras can lead to an increase in the overall cost of project.

As a camera used in small- and medium-sized projects, Unisinsight’s 2MP infrared fixed-focus box network camera fully optimizes each component, effectively ensuring the reliability and stability of the product. Further, the IP67 protection rating, wide dynamic range, backlight compensation, strong light suppression and other features allow this camera to be used in various environments.

Especially when connected to the Unisinsight backend platform, the camera can quickly locate the recording events through smart tags, and is paired with AR real-life cloud images to achieve all-round three-dimensional monitoring, comprehensively improving the security of a given area.
