Intersec Dubai, the biggest security trade event in the Middle East, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. According to the organizer, the 2024 edition will host a record 1,000 exhibitors, a 20 percent increase from 2023. The sheer number speaks volume of Intersec’s role as a major international expo for security players.
What is Intersec? It’s the first major international security trade event of the year. This year’s show is even more special as the expo celebrates 25 years of excellence in the security tradeshow business. Held January 16 to 18 at the Dubai World Trade Center, Intersec 2024 will feature the theme of “Innovating security tech for a quarter century.” According to show organizer Messe Frankfurt Middle East, the silver jubilee edition of Intersec will see 1,000 exhibitors from more than 60 nations – with around a quarter of these appearing for the first time – occupying 13 halls at DWTC. Visitor-wise, more than 45,000 trade visitors from around the world will grace the event with their presence. And they won’t be disappointed: the 2024 show will encompass five broad product sections, namely Commercial & Perimeter Security, Homeland Security & Policing, Fire & Rescue, Safety & Health, and Cyber Security, offering tailored solutions for each industry segment under one roof.
“With less than two weeks to the largest edition of Intersec, we look forward to providing a platform for bringing the leading industry players together for three days of discovery, networking, knowledge sharing and most of all, driving the industry forward,” said Alex Nicholl, Group Commercial Director at Messe Frankfurt Middle East.
Conferences and fringe events
Like every year, the 2024 edition will feature a variety of events, conferences and fringe programs that define what is Intersec. The high-impact conference programs will include the exclusive Security Leaders' Summit (ISLS) exploring trends in sustainable security and geopolitical risk intelligence; the Cyber Security Conference, hosted by the UAE Cybersecurity Council, delving into metaverse security and Zero Trust Architecture; and the Safety & Health Conference emphasizing workplace safety and well-being.
Other events will include the Drone Threats & Counter Measures Workshop, the Emergency Crisis Management & Communication Workshop, live demonstrations in the Attack Zone, a catwalk show of industrial safety gear at the Safety Walk, and the Future Defenders Hack Arena.
“These conferences and workshops serve as the intellectual heartbeat of Intersec, providing a platform where pressing issues are dissected, innovative solutions are unveiled, and the seeds of progress are sown,” Nicholl said.
Fire safety
Fire safety, long been a hallmark at Intersec, will again be a main attraction this year as over 400 dedicated fire and safety exhibitors will occupy five halls at the exhibition, making it the fastest growing sector. An impressive 70 percent of the industry's global market leaders are set to converge, offering unparalleled opportunities for industry professionals to engage and conduct business in the Middle East.
Among the key players, NAFFCO, renowned for its commitment to top-tier firefighting equipment and safety engineering systems, will take center stage with a captivating array of exhibits. From cutting-edge firefighting equipment to the latest advancements in fire protection systems, NAFFCO's stand promises to be a must-visit destination for professionals eager to explore the forefront of fire safety technology.
The Fire & Rescue Conference at Intersec 2024, hosted by Dubai Civil Defense, will serve as a knowledge-sharing platform addressing critical industry topics. Industry leaders, experts, and innovators will discuss Emergency Response Planning, Industrial Firefighting, Fire Safety in High-Rise Structures, and more. Key speakers include Gary Barthram, Chief Fire Officer at Heathrow Airport, and Mohammed Saeefan from Saudi Aramco.
Intersec Awards 2024, meanwhile, will recognize excellence in the fire industry with categories like “Excellence in Fire Prevention” and “Outstanding Safety Solutions.” The gala ceremony brings together over 300 nominees, key players, and government representatives, strengthening industry relationships.
Aviation safety/drones
Also, the Middle East is seeing a strong increase in tourists and air passengers. As latest International Air Transport Association (IATA) figures show that the strong post-pandemic passenger traffic trend continues in the Middle East, emerging security challenges and threats to the aviation industry in the Middle East will be discussed in detail at Intersec 2024.
"The aviation industry has undergone a massive digital overhaul in the last few decades, with technological advancements significantly enhancing safety, efficiency, and service quality, but also expanding the potential for cyber threats. To maintain safety and reliability, the Security Leader's Summit allows the industry to deepen its understanding of security measures and enhance cooperation among stakeholders to counter these risks effectively. Intersec will also host world-leading technology exhibitors supporting innovation within the aviation security sector, including Nuctech, Linev System, Astrophysics, Garrett, and new exhibitors Rapsican and Vita Detection,” said Grant Tuchten, Portfolio Director at Messe Frankfurt Middle East.
Meanwhile, the Counter Drone Workshop will take place on the sidelines of the Drone & Anti Drone Zone, with over 200 square meters of drone innovations alongside state-of-the-art anti-drone technologies from the world's leading defense and security manufacturers, including Skyfend, D-fend Solutions, Dat ConAEE Aviation AxEnd.
