Recently, Volvo Cars successfully completed an expansion and renewal of their facility in the Gothenburg area in Sweden. One of the reasons was the production of the new Volvo XC90, which meant increased volumes. Even before anyone got the chance to try out the new car, the company received close to 30,000 pre-orders. The renewal of the plant continues to make place for new production lines. Producing cars in automated manufacturing and assembly requires advanced technology, processes, and equipment. Thereto high safety for staff is in the center, as well as smooth and efficient operations.
Machine protection doors for increased flow and productivity
ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems provided a large number of doors for machine protection to the Volvo Car plant. Machine protection doors are safety doors with a fast opening- and closing cycle that increase flow and productivity for automated processes and production lines. One of the door models used in the production line for the Volvo XC90 is the ASSA ABLOY RP300; a heavy-duty door designed for automated processes and production lines. Machine protection doors offer protection to staff working close to automated manufacturing processes. The safety concept of these roll-up doors allows a compact production setup, being installed at a short distance from the automated machines. At the same time, fast opening- and closing-cycle times increase product flow and process productivity.
