ZKTeco: leading the charge in modern elevator control system efficiency

ZKTeco: leading the charge in modern elevator control system efficiency
Buildings need to become more intelligent with systems capable of handling high traffic volumes. And this is where the ZKBio CVSecurity Destination Control System (DCS) Integration Solution is positioned to deliver the most impact – for security, convenience and seamless operations within these vertical landscapes.
As urban centers across the globe grapple with unprecedented population surges, the architectural response is clear and inevitable - the only direction to grow is upwards. Towering structures, from the iconic Burj Khalifa in the Middle East to the landmark skyscrapers of Manhattan, Hong Kong and elsewhere, symbolize a trend in vertical expansion that is not only steadfast but essential in modern times.

As towering structures become prevalent, the need for innovative solutions to enable efficient vertical commuting and energy efficiency becomes more urgent. Consider Hong Kong, which houses the highest number of skyscrapers globally – buildings there consume up to 90 percent of the city's electricity and contribute 60 percent of its greenhouse gas emissions.

And this is where the ZKBio CVSecurity Destination Control System (DCS) Integration Solution is positioned to deliver the most impact – for security, convenience and seamless operations within these vertical landscapes.

Role of elevator control in building management

ZKBio CVSecurity is ZKTeco’s web-based all-in-one security platform that can deliver real-time information from access control, alarms and video surveillance. With its latest DCS Integration Solution, users stand to benefit from high-level integration with third-party elevator solutions from market leaders KONE, Schindler, Hitachi and Mitsubishi to optimize security, people flow and elevator efficiency.

ZKBioCV Security DCS integration solution

Improved tenant and visitor access control

Elevator control can contribute significantly to building security by enforcing access restrictions and facilitating visitor management. Visitors and tenants would first verify their identities (via face, card, fingerprint, palm or QR code) with destination operator panels (DOPs) located outside the elevator and/or control operator panels (COPs) inside the elevators. The ZKBio CVSecurity platform would sync with the user’s access record and relay the information to the DCS server which assigns an elevator to bring the person to the assigned floor or choose between assigned floors.

Property owners can also opt to integrate the DOP and/or COP with ZKTeco entrance barrier gates, denying access immediately at the lobby for an additional layer of protection. This entrance access control feature would be advantageous for large-scale applications (e.g., tall buildings or skyscrapers with many floors and elevators to operate)

As the DCS solution grants verified access to only designated areas, this would be useful in multi-use or office complexes where different companies/businesses occupy different levels, helping to maintain privacy and security between organizations. Elevator control systems can also provide audit trails to investigate security incidents.

Better passenger traffic flow and energy efficiency

Intelligent DCS algorithms can help optimize elevator allocation, especially during peak rush hours for office buildings. By analyzing the user information provided by the ZKBio CVSecurity platform, the DCS can group together passengers on the same floor, minimizing the number of stops and unnecessary trips between floors.

There are two different advantages to this. Firstly, passengers experience reduced wait times and less overcrowding as traffic flow is more evenly distributed among available elevators. Secondly, less electrical energy wastage as elevators take more efficient and direct routes and operate within their optimal energy-efficient range.

Integration with other building subsystems

In addition to entrance control, property owners can link third-party DCS to other subsystems in the ZKTeco product portfolio such as the parking system, visitor management and attendance terminal.

License plate recognition (LPR), when the vehicle enters the parking lot, starts off the identity verification and authentication process via the ZKBio CVSecurity platform, which would then link to the third-party DCS that will automatically call the elevator. All this information from LPR parking data, access control and elevator control can be combined and managed on the access control devices supported by the ZKTeco platform. This integration can yield significant benefits in terms of streamlined operations and convenience.

Improved security – video surveillance and monitoring

Integrating video surveillance with elevator DCS enables monitoring of elevator activities and the surrounding areas when an event occurs. If an alarm is triggered by fire or smoke detection, for example, the ZKBio CVSecurity platform will facilitate video or image capture and send real-time notifications to the security personnel for immediate action.

DCS integration at work for building efficiency

A practical application of the ZKBio CVSecurity DCS Integrated Solution can be found at the Indonesia Stock Exchange building. Seeing up to 2,000 employees and visitors each day, the building operators needed an efficient DCS solution to shorten working times and long queues during peak hours. Instead of a complete overhaul, the project incorporated the existing entrance control system into the new solution.

Integrated entrance control

To accomplish this, ZKTeco deployed 24 units of InBio Pro Series access controllers connected to the entrance control system and DCS. In the lobby, staff and visitors use RFID access cards on readers integrated with the flap barriers. The elevator control module in ZKBio CVSecurity enables recognition of the users’ authority to the designated floor and delivers the information to the DCS. The nearest lift is then triggered to transport them to their authorized floors.

Quick visitor registration

The integrated DCS solution also enhanced visitor management via the optical character recognition (OCR) system employed at the reception area. Visitors can quickly scan identity documents such as IDs and driver licenses to immediately get temporary visitor credentials, eliminating the need for tedious manual paperwork.

Elevating the future: secure, efficient, sustainable

As skyscrapers rise higher in today's urban settings, there will be a corresponding rise in demand for technologies that can facilitate security, convenience and energy efficiency. With the DCS integration solution, ZKTeco is positioning itself to offer clients safety, efficiency and sustainability with a single platform. Partnerships with key elevator manufacturers enable more in-depth compatibility and seamless integration for new business opportunities and reliable user experience.
