Oct 29, 2019, Sunway Group, the renowned Malaysian conglomerate company, has announced that the Sunway Smart Parking system will be rolled out to the public in early 2020 after being on trial since late 2018. As the partner, JIESHUN, the China' s smart parking solution provider, has taken part in the press conference held in Sunway City, Malaysia.

The project including 7 parking lots with a total of 64 lanes including 32-entry and 32-exit license plate recognition controllers, 10-unit automated payment machines and a web-based parking management software which gives a centralized management and monitoring for 10,000 parking lots in multiple areas. According to the report from “thestar.com.my”, “This marks the country' s first and largest unified license plate recognition (LPR) system with multiple-payment options involving 10,000 car park bays in Sunway.”

Ticketless entry/exit with LPR technology is a key feature of this project. LPR can effectively achieve hassle-free access to give a great better experience to shoppers. Each car only takes 3 to 5 seconds to pass by, which can save more than half of the time compared with the traditional ticket parking.

Cashless mobile payment is another highlight of this smart parking system. The deployed system is able to support a wide variety of payment option including Malaysian E-wallets as well as credit and debit cards. To give a smooth migration, for shoppers who do not use any E-wallets or do not have internet access, they can opt to pay with the Touch' n Go card or through the automated payment machines with cash as well for this period. Shoppers who register their car plate numbers during the pre-registration period will get the chance to enjoy a 1-time free parking when it is open to public. Here is the list of payment option that will be available for users:
  • Digital Wallet: AliPay, Boost, GrabPay, Maybank QRPay, Touch' n Go eWallet, and WeChat Pay.
  • Payment Cards/Platforms: American Express, JCB, Mastercard, MyDebit, Visa, and UnionPay.

HC Chan, Chief Executive Officer of Sunway Malls & Theme Parks says, “We are pushing forth on our digitalization journey. With revolutionary technology, we want to continue introducing new seamless, exciting shopping experiences to our shoppers to enable hassle-free experiences with greater convenience. From our comprehensive award-winning Sunway Pyramid Mobile app with real-time navigation to this new parking system, we will continue to give our shoppers more reasons to choose us as their preferred lifestyle destination.”

Felix Zheng, the General Manager of Overseas Dept. of JIESHUN says, “While smart parking has been widely used in mainland China for years, we have been always considering how to bring smart parking to Malaysia to improve the operation efficiency and enhance drivers parking experience here.

As the leader in Smart Parking, JIESHUN has rich experience with 100,000 parking lots installation globally. For this project, there are 20,000 traffic flows each day in Sunway city, thus, system of robustness and reliability is our first concern relating to the solution design. We use a web-based parking management system to reduce the system complexity and offer a convenient login and out any time anywhere. To ensure the system stability, we also adopt hardware and software cluster design that balances the system load.”

Felix also says, “At present, our LPR accuracy rate in Malaysia is 98.5%; and in China it can reach 99.7% or even more. In the following weeks, basing on AI deep learning, we aim to increase the local accuracy rate up to 99.5%. ”
