Indonesian's capital city of Jakarta has started to build transportation and sports infrastructure to facilitate the 2018 Asian Games, Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo said recently.

Speaking on the sidelines of his meeting with officials of Indonesian Olympics Committee (KOI) and of Asian Olympic Council in his office, Joko said Jakarta would be ready to host Asia's largest sports event in 2018 as the city is now completing the construction of a landmark stadium in North Jakarta and Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) transportation network which are expected to be finished before 2018.

Joko said that Jakarta has international-level sport venues that facilitate world-class sports events in the past. Those venues can be prepared anytime soon, he said.

"And I think the construction process of the new landmark stadium in North Jakarta may take two years to complete. So we are very ready to host the event," Joko said in his office.

Joko added that another infrastructure project which now has been commenced, the MRT transportation network, is expected to be to commence service in 2018. It all would add to the city's preparedness in facilitating the international event.

Joko that won the recent presidential race added that "Asian Games is not merely sports issue, it also an issue of proud. This is a matter of city and country promotion. We must show them our strength in all aspects. I believe that we can do that," Joko said.

Jakarta brushed aside other Asian cities nominated to host 2018 Asian Games to replace Hanoi.
