General Electric, the US conglomerate, is set to spend $100 million in Indonesia this year, as part of its $300 million investment over the next 3 years.

The multinational conglomerate plans to get involved in energy, aviation, mining, health, transportation, and oil and gas in the country.

Last year, GE booked revenue of more than $1 billion from its Indonesian operations. The company employed more than 100 people and trained 500 clients through the eight business sectors it is involved in.

GE plans to create a service maintenance training center for the CFM 56-7B aircraft engine, in partnership with national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, the country's biggest airline, which would help maintain about 1,000 aircraft using this engine.

The conglomerate also cooperates with the railway operator Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) to modernize its locomotives.

GE is expanding its offshore drilling equipment manufacturing plant in Batam to have a capacity of 2 units per month.

“With this expansion, Indonesia could become the first country in APAC to have a production facility for subsea production trees. We already have one in Aberdeen, Scotland,” he said.

“We also want to enter the mining sector by producing equipment and tools. At the moment, we are promoting anti-collision systems,” Handry said.

GE Lighting, the company's unit in the lighting industry, will expand its plant in Sleman, Yogyakarta. This would boost GE Lighting's production capacity for halogen bulbs for the export market to around 35 million units per year.
