How biometric software solutions help with law enforcement
Needless to say, biometrics have become a mainstream tool for access control and identity management. More and more, biometric software solutions are being used by law enforcement to identify and catch criminals.
Needless to say, biometrics have become a mainstream tool for access control and identity management. More and more, biometric software solutions are being used by law enforcement to identify and catch criminals.

The growth of biometrics is not to be ignored. According to a new market research report by MarketsandMarkets, the biometrics system market is estimated to grow from US$16.8 billion by 2018 to $41.8 billion by 2023, at a compound annual growth rate of 19.99 percent between 2018 and 2023.

“The biometrics system market has huge potential in application such as government, military and defense, and travel and immigration. Major factors driving the growth of this market are the increasing number of government initiatives to adopt biometrics, and growing need for surveillance and security owing to the threats of terrorist attacks,” the report said.

In fact, using biometrics in law enforcement can be traced back to the 19th century. “Since the 1700s the use of biometrics has been noticed, and in 1891 fingerprint was used law enforcement to identify prisoners for the first time. It’s incredible how the technology has advanced since then — technology developed to integrate biometric systems with software solutions to smoothen the work process in dynamic ways in different sectors,” said a recent blog post by M2SYS.

Uses in law enforcement

According to the post, biometric software solutions can play a key role when combined with a law enforcement solution, an integrated software through which taking action against a criminal becomes very swift. According to the post, key uses of biometrics in law enforcement are summarized as follows.

Adding to existing solutions

A law enforcement solution provides an integrated system to manage any case. Advanced biometric software enables the existing solution to identify the right suspect and analyze their previous records in less than a second. Besides, it also allows customizing the solution according to the specific requirement of law enforcement.

Criminal booking system

A customizable automated biometric identification system-integrated booking system identifies the suspects or criminals and is able to analyze their demographic data and history, helping the agents to understand the criminals and capture them efficiently. The integration with mobile devices increases operational efficiencies and strengthen the booking process.

Case management system

The case management process starts with filing a complaint and ends with the action taken by the judiciary. A biometrics software solution integrates with the investigation data and allows the agents to take action according to built-in administrative capabilities, which automatically assigns the case to an agent.

Investigation system

The advanced biometric software solution contributes very efficiently to investigating critical or sensitive cases by storing and retrieving the investigation data and matching the clues, analyzing the possible matching of DNA to facilitate the investigation of sophisticated crimes, and helping agents to understand the behavioral patterns of the criminal.

Blockchain artificial intelligence

Integration of Blockchain artificial intelligence assures end-to-end security and decentralization of information, providing quantitative analysis on universal operations and artificial intelligence through probabilistic analytics to prevent the crime before it happens.

According to the post, M2SYS has the solution in this regard. “ePoliceTM is one such advanced biometric software solution for law enforcement agencies which integrates all of the modules narrated above. Besides, the solution is easy to customize according to the requirement, mobile friendly, and scalable which can prepare customized analytics report, ensure use on the go and be efficient,” it said. “Thus, the advanced biometric software solution for law enforcement contributes to increasing operational efficiency by balancing the works of inter-department and bringing the criminal to justice easily.”
