Smart home company iHome has just unveiled two new Amazon Alexa-compatible devices – a mirror and a bedside clock, which enable users to access the voice assistant from the bed or when they are getting ready for the day.
Smart home company iHome has just unveiled two new Amazon Alexa-compatible devices – a mirror and a bedside clock, which enable users to access the voice assistant from the bed or when they are getting ready for the day.
Both products feature Bluetooth audio streaming, good sound quality and access to thousands of Alexa Skills including those related to smart home control.
Especially suited for a variety of cosmetic needs, the iCVA66 Vanity Mirror is the new flagship model of the company’s mirror product line. It is designed to fit on vanities or bathroom countertops. The 9-inch mirror comes with 10x magnification. The distortion-free mirror, bright full-color LED illumination and high- and low-light settings combined are useful for cosmetic use.
During skin care routines, makeup applications, shaving and more, users can charge their phones, listen to music, answer calls and use Alexa to play music, set alarms, check calendars or access news, traffic and weather at the same time.
The US$180 Vanity Mirror also feature battery-saving timer circuit to turn light off after 15 minutes; Bluetooth audio with speakerphone control; integrated media controls with talk/end button; and a USB charging port.
The alarm clock
The US$100 iAV14 bedside alarm clock features an Alexa snooze button, so users may get a few more minutes of sleep by pushing button or by asking Alexa.
With dimmable LED clock display, the iAV14 has a modern design and features a rubberized top for smartphone placement. The device has a smart button that can be programmed for one-touch music playback, call answering, smart home control and more. There is a USB port to charge devices.
The clock is equipped with a far-field voice input system, and users can access numerous Alexa Skills to control smart devices like smart plugs, set the thermostat, check the forecast and traffic, share news and play music from online streaming services or Bluetooth-connected devices.
Both the iAV14 and the iCVA66 support popular streaming music services like Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, Pandora, Spotify and TuneIn.
Continues to support Alexa
Last year iHome released its first bedside alarm clock music system with voice-activated Alexa feature. In response to the positive feedback from the market, the company is expanding the Alexa-enabled product line this year, iHome says in a statement. The new bedside alarm clock and vanity mirror lets users “access the vast skill set of Alexa on devices they normally rely on every day," said Gary Schultz, Director of Business & Product Development at iHome.
The product introduction builds on iHome's growing support for the Amazon Alexa ecosystem. Today iHome offers several Alexa-compatible products, including tabletop and bedside speakers as well as smart plugs.
It is worth noting that iHome offers products that are compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple HomeKit. Among them are iHome iSP6X SmartPlug and iHome Outdoor Switch.
The smart plug is priced at US$30 but comes with many functionalities, including scheduling options, intuitive app and easy installation. It also works with Nest, Wink and Samsung SmartThings.
