To realize “live try out of smart home”, eQ-3 and Conrad Electronic are jointly implementing first major flagship project in a store in Essen, Germany. The product display of the Homematic IP and Homematic smart home systems includes the largest live demonstration of Homematic IP to date in retail channels.

Product decisions are often made by customers directly at the point of sale. Onsite professional advice and buying experience are therefore essential for the purchase decision. eQ-3 and Conrad Electronic are now meeting this customer demand with a unique retail display area for the Homematic IP and Homematic smart home systems.

An eight-meter product area in the Conrad store in Essen will show a selection from the comprehensive product ranges of both systems. Customers can experience the smart home products themselves, as well as try out the free smartphone app with lighting, roller blind and smart heating controls. The voice assistant also allows consumers to control these devices via natural voice commands.

“We are very pleased to enable the live-demo of Homematic IP to a broad public,” said Simon Klanten, Senior Key Account Manager at eQ-3. “The customer can get a first-hand impression of how intuitive the use of Homematic IP via the app or voice control is. In addition, the product presentation shows how varied the range is.”

Product ranges around smart home automation are becoming increasingly important for retailers. “The term ‘smart home’ has been very popular for several years. Many manufacturers have already specialized in home automation,” said Reiner Schirm, Head of Product Group Strategic Brands at Conrad Electronic. “With the new voice control via Amazon Alexa or Google Home, the individual systems are even easier to use and fit for the mass market. Despite this positive development, the need for information is very high for many customers. That’s why we decided to build a live demonstration in our Essen branch,” explained Schirm.

“By presenting the various possible applications, the customer can experience and test smart home at firsthand. The Homematic smart home system, which has been successfully and reliably on the market for many years, and the further development of Homematic IP have been available for this purpose. Due to the large variety of components and the easy installation of the systems, they are suitable for both beginners and professionals,” added Schirm.
