Vanguard Video expands H.265/HEVC codec with 4K/UltraHD support and real-time streaming to mobile devices
Vanguard Video, a developer of broadcast quality video compression technology, announced the latest release of V.265, a professional-grade software codec based on the new H.265/HEVC international standard. V.265 can deliver up to 50-percent reduction in bandwidth and improved video quality — compared to that of the existing H.264 standard — with real-time 1,080p software encoding, 4K/UltraHD support and real-time mobile streaming on x86 platforms.

Vanguard Video, a developer of broadcast quality video compression technology, announced the latest release of V.265, a professional-grade software codec based on the new H.265/HEVC international standard. The H.265/HEVC standard was ratified in January 2013, and Vanguard has a fully compliant encoder and decoder available now. V.265 has a multithreaded architecture and incorporates Vanguard's patented motion estimation algorithms and multiplatform support for Windows and Linux, both 32 and 64 bit .

V.265 is provided as an SDK so OEMs and content providers can easily integrate this new generation of video compression into their products and workflows. “Video distribution and broadcast companies around the world are searching for higher-quality video solutions, especially with the huge increase in mobile video,” said Irena Terterov, founder and CEO. “The new international standard, H.265, provides a dramatic increase in bit-rate efficiency, delivering high-quality video at half the bandwidth. H.265 will be the dominant video compression standard for the next 10 years, and we are very excited to be at the forefront of this new generation technology.”
