Middle East ID program smartens up
Identive Group announced that it has received an order for more than 300,000 small USB smart card readers to support a national electronic ID card program in the Middle East. The order is expected to be shipped during the first quarter of 2013. The readers will be used by citizens to enable secure access to e-government and e-administration applications, as well as to digitally sign documents. Many countries around the world are in the process of implementing electronic identity card programs to decrease identity fraud, manage access to public online services, and reduce administrative costs, said Manfred Mueller, COO and Executive VP of Identification Products at Identive.
