In the 2009 Security 50 ranking, Chinese companies experienced the most growth among Asian suppliers. Dahua Technology is one of the companies that grew despite challenging market conditions, increasing its revenue for 2008 by nearly 56 percent. In 2010, the company is experiencing another spike of growth by providing the market a full series of DVR with mature technology and stable product performance. A&S China Best Buys discusses the company's product advantages with Michael Chen, Vice President of Dahua Technology and James Wang, Overseas Product Manager.

From the latest 2009 Security 50 report, Dahua advanced to 19th place from 32nd in 2008. The company achieved record high revenues of US$92.5 million in 2008, enjoying 55.9 percent of revenue growth. This year, the company expects double growth.

Michael Chen, Vice President at Dahua Technology, pointed out the company's key growth factors. “We value teamwork as one of our core values,” he said. “We consider customers our teammates, as they provide us with local product requirements and market analysis. From our end, we have a R&D team for overseas markets. The team also provides technical support and education to our local partners. These individuals are crucial, allowing us to better understand markets and serve our customers.”

From Chen's standpoint, a video system symbolizes a circle connecting everyone. The more possibilities and growth for inclusion, the larger the circle will be. Dahua's ultimate goal is to help customers leverage their business by partnering with the company. Chen believes Dahua has the complete product lineup to satisfy customer needs, enabling customers to enjoy high performance and quality products from entrylevel to high-end.

“The key reason for Dahua's success was our products cater to user needs and different market requirements, thanks to our R&D capabilities and an ideal ratio of price-performance products,” said Chen. “This truly gave us an edge to penetrate challenging markets, such as India, Poland, Brazil and other emerging markets.”

Full DVR Series
In 2010, the company introduced and refined its DVR series. Among all its offerings, one DVR attracted more attention. This model supports 32 channels of video inputs, including four channels of D1 resolution. “This product aims to serve high-end and large-scale applications,” said James Wang, Overseas Product Manager at Dahua Technology.

The DVR1604HE-U Hybrid DVR features 16 channels of analog video inputs and four channels of network camera inputs. This model is designed with a cost-effective price and it can support recording for up to 16 channels at D1 (4CIF) resolution in real-time and four channels of megapixel network cameras at 720P resolution. The DVR supports 16 channels of loop outputs and one channel matrix output. The new hybrid DVR can support VGA, HDMI (1080P), e-SATA and four USB 2.0 inputs.

“Furthermore, we are planning to launch a high-end hybrid DVR,” Wang said. “It can support 16-channel network camera inputs with advanced intelligent functions, such as people counting and object detection.”

In Dahua's plan, a high definition (HD) DVR is a mandatory product. Its HD DVR features HD camera inputs with HD-SDI interface, HD codecs and also HD display through HD-SDI/VGA/HDMI. This product is designed to have four and eight inputs as a standard specification.

Dahua's installed unique software into its NVR and hybrid DVR, which is the remote communication function. This function, Wang said, can connect other NVRs or hybrid DVRs within the same network. The networked storage devices allows end users to retrieves image data from other devices, with no need to access images centrally from the control center. “On top of that, we have a high-end NVR in development, with strong CPU processing ability,” Wang added.

The company also offers different DVRs for specific applications. This includes all-in-one DVRs, mobile DVRs and ATM DVRs. The full series of DVRs gives the company an edge to cater to various customer needs in storage.

Strong In-House Software Capability
When it comes to making quality products, 60 percent comes from solid R&D effort, while the rest is from quality control procedures. Dahua has almost 1500 employees, including about 500 employees on its R&D staff. A large investment in R&D calls for scientific management and innovation to strengthen Dahua's core competitiveness.

Dahua not only focuses on hardware manufacturing but also software development capabilities. This enables the company to better serve different customer requirements. For example, mobile monitoring has been in increased demand. Therefore, UPnP is designed to support remote monitoring. Along with DDNS function, it is much more convenient for customers and end users. The direct mobile surveillance system (DMSS) has been integrated with DVR through mobile devcies, including iPhone, Blackberry, Android, Symbian and Windows Mobile.

By listening to its customers, Dahua successfully developed a MAC version pro software system (PSS) for its DVR. “This PSS function enables support for Macs, to cater to some Apple-addicted users,” Wang said. “This is unique in the industry.”

Meanwhile, Wang pointed out its software network video decoder is capable of providing HD images. Dahua's digital surveillance system is designed for video walls as a project purpose.

Besides, Dahua designed a software-enabling DVR to connect with video door phones. “Through this function, end users can even archive video images directly from their intercoms,” said Wang. “This is designed for foreign buyers where large-scale residential areas are an issue.”

In 2009, the company's revenue enjoyed 50 percent growth at the overseas sales front, a f ter implementing cost-effective strategies in several regions. In 2010, Chen believes that with the wide range of Dahua's portfolio, the company will experience 100 percent growth as it provides quality products and high-end design to customers.
