Marine Surveillance White Paper Released to Support Northern Route Operators
Source: Synectics
How are northern shipping routes changing the way marine operators use their surveillance solutions? That is the question answered in a new white paper released by global surveillance business, Synectics.

The free resource – which can be downloaded at www.synecticsuk.com/marine-whitepaper, looks at the growing importance of arctic routes for global shipping and at how surveillance technologies can be utilised to mitigate the risks associated with increased use of these northern passages.

The technologies covered by the paper are applicable to: oil/gas tankers, freight ships, research vessels and any other ice-class facilities operating in hazardous seas.

Topics include: integration with ship systems (radar), surveillance as a navigational aid (in challenging weather/light/temperature conditions), port security, crew safety and cargo/equipment monitoring.

Importantly for arctic navigation, the issue of environmental impact is also covered – with thermal imaging highlighted as a valuable tool for navigating areas of ecological sensitivity.

The paper features a camera station checklist to guide readers through the key performance features they should be aware of, and provides a detailed view of surveillance as a whole ship situational awareness tool.
