ISC West ‘returns to normal’ after two years of disruption due to COVID
It can really be said that ISC West is returning to normal this year, taking place at the spring timeslot that we in security have grown familiar with. This article examines what’s new and interesting at the show.
It can really be said that ISC West is returning to normal this year, taking place at the spring timeslot that we in security have grown familiar with. This article examines what’s new and interesting at the 2022 show (besides the venue’s name change from “Sands Expo” to “Venetian Expo”).

Assuming no major disruptions occur, this year’s ISC West will take place from March 22 to 25 at Venetian Expo in Las Vegas. This is a return to normalcy, considering what had happened over the past two years: The show got cancelled in 2020 and was delayed to July in 2021, all due to COVID.

The scale of the show this year will be larger as well. According to the show website, there will be 553 exhibitors, an increase from the 400-plus exhibitors from last year. The exhibitors will include ISC West regulars as well as newcomers, including Accipiter Radar Technology, Cawamo, Corsight AI, FiberRanger, Hailo, Leonardo ELSAG ALPR Solution, Quanergy Systems and SENTRY AI, among others.

In terms of attendees, registrations have now “marked over 80 percent ahead of 2021,” according to the show’s latest press release. Last year, there was an estimated 8,000 industry professionals from ISC West’s core audience groups of security integrators, dealers and installers, and enterprise and government end-user practitioners.

The show this year will be divided into several featured areas including Connected & IoT Security, Drones & Robotics, Emerging Tech, Public Safety & Health and Smart Home. It will also feature a variety of “fringe” events/activities including: Keynote Series, SIA Education@ISC Program, SIA New Products & Solutions (NPS) Awards Program and the Bridge – the new heartbeat of ISC West powered by Intel.

“We’re excited to unveil new aspects of this year’s Show Floor specifically focused on trending topics and growth segments in the industry, while creating a WOW experience for our customers with a redesigned Show look and feel, which contributes even more excitement in addition to the notorious ISC West energy,” said Mary Beth Shaughnessy, Event Director. “There will truly be something for everyone at this year’s event and we cannot wait to see all of our customers.”

International presence at the show this year remains to be seen. Being a leading trade show in security, ISC West each year draws a large number of international security-related exhibitors/visitors. Yet COVID has changed everything. Last year exhibitors and attendees were mainly U.S.-based, or US representatives of international companies. This year, with COVID lingering and travel restrictions yet to be lifted in many countries, whether international presence at the show will return to previous levels is an interesting point to observe.

COVID measures

Speaking of COVID, ISC West has announced a series of measures to prevent and control the spread of the coronavirus. These are listed as follows.

Verification of full vaccination/negative test

According to the show website, ISC West requires proof of full vaccination with a vaccine approved or authorized by the FDA or WHO, or proof of a negative antigen or PCR COVID-19 test administered by a medical provider for entry to the event. Antigen COVID-19 tests must be taken within 24 hours of entry to the event, and PCR COVID-19 tests must be taken within 72 hours of entry to the event.

Temperature screening/daily health monitoring

According to the website, prior to arrival at each day of ISC West, every individual, including exhibitors, attendees, guests and staff, must review and confirm they are able to comply with the Health and Safety Acknowledgement, including ensuring that they are not currently experiencing any of the symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath or sore throat. Anyone who is not feeling well or begins to experience symptoms at any time during ISC West should follow the guidance of the Southern Nevada Health District and self-isolate. No one is permitted entry to ISC West who is not in full compliance with these health and safety guidelines and the Health and Safety Acknowledgement.

Increased sanitization and hygiene

ISC West says that it has worked closely with The Venetian Convention and Expo Center to implement cleaning and sanitization standards that meet or exceed the recommendations of the CDC. “It is the responsibility of everyone to maintain personal hygiene, including washing your hands frequently,” its website said.
