CEM's access control system restricts entry to the refinery as well as monitors the movement of authorized visitors, employees and contractors. More than 70 Ethernet-based card readers are installed at the site, streamlining access in and throughout the refinery and smartcards are used to gain entry. Installed both outdoors on external entrance gates and on the plant floor, the readers proved ideal for the refinery with their offline database feature and ability to withstand power surges.
CEM worked with LOR to provide a solution that involved customization of the system software to meet specific requirements. This included a new software module and specific reports to help control and monitor movement in the environment in which they operate. A zone monitoring software module was developed specifically for LOR, providing a real-time display and numerical counter of every individual in the facility, including a clear and detailed presence report of staff on site and the area zone they are operating in. Reports can be conducted including date, time, location and zone as well as the most recent activities of cardholders. Searches are also performed by safety officers giving a zone total of specific persons on site.
A “mustering” module was also developed to keep track of staff in the event of an emergency. The zone and “muster” reports generated from this module enable emergency services to determine if anyone is still in the danger area in the event of a hazard.
Using the alarm event display module, security officers can view the current state of all devices on the entire system. With graphical software maps of the refinery installed on the application, security officers are informed of error situations in the form of real-time graphical-, audio- and text-based alarms. Using portable hand held readers, LOR also carries out roaming checks throughout the refinery to set up emergency and temporary check points should hazards arise.
Utilizing the time and attendance module, reports can be compiled on the number of hours and shift patterns worked by the 700 employees and contractors employed on a full and temporary basis at the refinery.
