ASRock believes a satisfactory digital life should be built on a well-connected and user-friendly environment. That’s why ASRock created X10, an all-rounder Wi-Fi router which also integrates IR and Zigbee connectivity. It allows users to manage, control and monitor smart devices of different brands with the X10 smart home app.
The smartphone can be turned into a universal remote control for home appliances. For instance, users may turn on air conditioner or audio amplifier with the X10 app before arriving home. X10 can also carry out IFTTT-like remote control to enable home automation.
Thanks to the broad range of sensors it supports, X10 works with devices like Philips Hue bulbs, GE smart bulbs, Securifi door sensors, ACEXP motion sensors and Swann siren.
ASRock X10 provides four working modes, and can be turned into an access point or bridge network card easily. The ROUTER mode enables NAT and DHCP server capabilities besides serving as the Wi-Fi router. ACCESS POINT mode works with another SOHO router and provides W-Fi AP capability. The REPEATER mode sets X10 as a W-Fi repeater to enhance Wi-Fi connectivity. The BRIDGE mode works with another SOHO router and provides wire forwarding capability.
Even when the user is located in foreign country far away from his home, X10’s “machine to machine” (M2M) connecting technology enables secure and hassle-free connectivity across multiple NATs. Forget traditional setup methods such as fixed private IP, fixed public IP, DDNS, port forwarding and firewall rules. With X10, it is as simple as signing up for a new account and registering the router. The machine-to-machine direct connection is also much faster than traditional relay servers.
Through users’ mobile devices, X10 IoT router enables geo-fencing and location-based trigger command. The app will link users’ location information with relevant sensors which can be automatically triggered to send notification messages.
For instance, when users leave home (if the coordinate of X10 router was set as home), the door sensor and alarm siren will be automatically set as “ON.” When uses approach home, all the sensors will be automatically disabled.
X10 supports multi-user, multiple-input, multiple-output technology (known as MU-MIMO), allowing the Wi-Fi router to communicate with multiple devices simultaneously. This decreases the time each device has to wait for a signal and speeds up the network. Considering that the average household has upwards of eight devices battling for bandwidth, MU-MIMO will improve users’ Wi-Fi experience.
ASRock X10 also builds into isolate SSID, which enhances parental control by limiting Internet access. This can be done through schedule, key word or URL filters. Meanwhile, adult will be able to surf the Internet without filtering through the original SSID. ASRock X10 also provide another SSID for visiting guests. By isolating specific SSID, filter or schedule limitation imposed on one group will have no impact on another group.
To facilitate integration with more potential partners in the market, ASRock is planning to make available the X10 API for sensor manufacturers.
