Infinova announced the southern Brazilian city of Porto Alegre, the country's 11th largest municipality, has just gone live with a traffic monitoring system featuring 30 Infinova H- and M-Series high definition (HD) cameras that replace a series of cameras from various manufacturers. The system provides assistance to first responders, including police and rescue teams, in cases of accidents and stranded travelers.

The new, improved surveillance system was created with DigiFort, a Sao Paolo-based software house that creates software for monitoring and managing network cameras as well as intelligent video analytics. The company is rapidly expanding throughout Latin America and in the Middle East.

“Based on Texas Instruments' Da Vinci technology, our M-Series were easily integrated with the DigiFort VMS,” said Adolph Salas, Infinova VP of Sales for Latin America and the Caribbean. “Likewise, the H.264 HD capabilities were also easily handled by the Digifort software, making installation and implementation go smoothly.”

Images are stored on a variety of servers, including those from IBM, HP and Dell.

Uniquely, a local TV station is in the same building as the control room for the traffic system. From central management, video signals are sent to the local station to provide traffic reports showing station viewers traffic flow and spots to avoid.
