Smart parking uses a security camera as the sensor and built-in analytics to implement the operations with intelligence while complimenting with audio devices to enable one-way or two-way communication.

A 3-step process takes place in smart parking: detection, verification, and action. According to Jessica Chang, Regional Director for North Asia at
Axis Communications, accuracy and real-time response enforcement are essential factors for detecting and verifying license plates and violations.
“Advanced capability in the analytics and a powerful image sensor delivered through Axis network camera assures accurate detection and verification in demanding conditions,” Chang said. Prompt action is facilitated with seamless integration between devices (such as an audio speaker), analytics, and a central video management system. Chang added, “The unified system automates compliance with the security and safety rules with prompt verification and action. “
Access control to prevent misuse of car parks
Smart parking offers several benefits to customers. While preventing unauthorized access to parking lots may seem to be the most critical, other advantages are equally useful to customers in different verticals. In the case of gate control of a parking lot, granting access to approved car plates could be simpler through video cameras with license plate recognition applications. Registered cars can automatically get access right to the parking lot once the license plate recognition system verifies them. Visiting cars without pre-approved access can contact the security managers through a video-intercom device, in which the verification can be conducted with both visual and verbal confirmation by the security manager remotely.
Seamless integration between connected devices enables a smooth operation procedure with reliable detection, which users can benefit from less human delays, errors, and automated quick action. “Automation can also mean fewer guards needed but still catching more offenders. With the same system, guest service personnel can proactively identify important vehicles and VIPs to provide priority service,” said Chang.

Recorded audio often functions as a good deterrent, warning the potential offenders that they’re under surveillance.

When booking a hotel room, a guest can provide their car license plate number and receive a QR code that would securely grant access to the hotel parking garage.
