NEC Platforms announced the opening of a new plant for its production-related affiliate, NEC Platforms Thai. The new three-story facility was constructed on a site adjacent to the company's existing plant and has a total floor area of 29,305 square meters, making it 30% larger than the existing plant.

NEC Platforms Thai mainly produces network products, such as PBX and key telephones, in addition to video device products such as projectors. However, in anticipation of an increase in demand for advanced in-car devices associated with the evolution of automobiles and the advancement of connected technologies, the company is reinforcing its production organization for the electronic control unit (ECU), digital tachograph and other in-car products. Moreover, the company is placing greater focus on the production of high value-added products that are globally competitive.

The new plant features a clean room for the implementation of high-quality production that is required for in-car devices and optical devices. This is in addition to a sophisticated showroom and its concept of visibility that exhibits a variety of products and solutions from the NEC Group, as well as products that are manufactured within the new plant. Furthermore, NEC Platforms Thai will extend the concept by introducing measures to improve productivity and quality by making use of factory IoT and AI that enable the visualization of abnormalities and the optimization of work procedures and resources at the production site.

“I am proud to see NEC Platforms Thai commence operations in a new state-of-the-art facility,” said Takemi Hosaka, Representative Director and President, NEC Platforms. “The new plant will play a critical role as a manufacturing hub that supports NEC's social solution business and serves as a global supply hub for the NEC Group's international expansion.”

This new plant helps to reinforce NEC Platforms' business continuity plan (BCP) based on experience from the Great East Japan Earthquake and recent floods in Thailand. This is in addition to beginning the implementation of the company's “Global One Factory” plan, which ensures that production processes are shared and that system integration is carried out among all domestic and international plants. Moving forward, the company plans to continue strengthening collaboration between plants by utilizing IoT advancements.
