Chinese camera manufacturers are providing customized robust housing designs for applications requiring explosion-proof, vandal-proof and waterproof products.

Waterproof or weather-proof protection is generally used for outdoor speed domes and IR cameras. Indoor fixed IR domes usually have vandal-proof capabilities to enhance security. Mature molding techniques and better quality control have improved reliability of Chinese-made products. A&S looks at vandalproof and waterproof cameras from Aebell, Qihan, Success, Sunell, Topband and XCJ.

Aebell's BL-880BB80 is a vandalproof dome camera with IP68 rating, 420-TVL horizontal resolution and 0.01 lux illumination. It comes with a one-third-inch Sony super HAD CCD image sensor. The product supports auto gain control and auto white balance. Resolution is 500 pixels by 582 pixels in PAL, 510 pixels by 492 pixels in NTSC; electronic shutter speed is 1/50 second to 1/100,000 second in PAL, 1/60 second to 1/100,000 second in NTSC. It is equipped with an internal synchronization system that has an S/N ratio of more than 48 dB. It can be customized with six-millimeter fixed lenses or 3.6 millimeter, eight-millimeter and 12-millimeter varifocal ones.

Sunell's SN-VP586 ser ies WDR vandal - proof dome cameras adopt one-third-inch DPS with high resolution of 540 TVLs that feature a maximum 120 dB super-dynamic range, 12 privacy masking zones, OSD menu control with dip switch, DC auto iris, varifocal lens and three-axis bracket designs to enable three-dimensional rotation. Power consumption is a maximum 4.5 watts, and it supports adjustable AGC and gamma correction.

With 520 TVLs and 40-millimeter to 60-millimeter effective IR distance, Topband's TBO-3095 one-third-inch Sony CCD IR water-resistant camera has a scan system with 520 lines in 60 scenes per second (NTSC) and 620 lines in 50 scenes per second (PAL); frequency is 15.734 Mhz (H) and 60 Hz (V) in NTSC and 15.626 Mhz (H) and 50 Hz (V) in PAL. It supports nine-volt to 14-volt DC power supply, auto white balance and backlight compensation. Minimum illumination is 0.1 lux at F2.0, IR on 0 lux with standard eight-millimeter lenses. It uses 1.0 Vp-p 75 ohms to output video. 49 IR LEDs ensure radiant distance up to 60 meters.

Meanwhile, its TBO-5074VIR is a vandal-proof camera that features a one-third inch Sony CCD sensor with 480-TVL horizontal resolution and built-in six millimeter to eight-millimeter lenses. Minimum illumination is 0 lux at F1.2 and IR distance is 30 meters.

XCJ ' s SC- 35 ( 351 ) HP is a one-third-inch Sony CCD IR water-resistant camera with CCIR, EIA, PAL and NTSC signal systems. It features 480-TVL resolution with an S/N ratio of more than 48 dB and 12-volt DC power supply. Composite output is 1.0Vp-p, 75 ohms and electronic shutter speed is 1/50 second to 1/100,000 second (PAL), 1/60 second to 1/100,000 second (NTSC). It has a TV system with CCIR and EIA (black-white) and NTSC or PAL (color). Minimum illumination is one lux (IR on). It offers auto white balance mode and auto gain control. Its weather-resistant rating is IP-55 and power consumption is 12 volts DC and 310 mA with white balance range from 3,200 K to 10,000 K. The product works in temperatures from -10 to +50 degrees Celsius. It has 0.45-gamma correction and lens options of 3.6 millimeters to six millimeters. IR LED visible range is 30 meters and the camera weighs 380 grams.

Success' TS-882 is a water-resistant day night digital CCD camera with IR LEDs. It uses one-third-inch Sony sensors for clear, stable image quality, and it supports 4.9-millimeter by 3.7-millimeter PAL and NTSC signal systems. Resolution is 500 pixels by 582 pixels (PAL) and 510 pixels by 492 pixels  (NTSC). It also features 420-TVL horizontal resolution with an S/N ratio of more than 48dB (AGC off), 12-volt DC power supply (when infrared lamps are on, maximum electricity is 400 mA). Video output is 1.0 Mp-p 75 ohms (BNC) and shutter speed is 1/50 second (1/60) to 1/100,000 second. I tuses 3.6-millimeter, six-millimeter and eight -millimeter selectable lens mounts and minimum illumination is 0 lux (infrared LEDs on). It can be customized with 24 or 36 IR LEDs. Infrared wavelength is 850 nanometers and infrared lamps are 25 millimeters and 30 millimeters.Dimensions are 68 millimeters by 100 millimeters by 65 millimeters.

Qihan's VS-59 is a vandal-proof camera that features a one-third-inch aluminum alloy (vandalproof). Camera and brackets incorporate concealed cables. Protection rate is IP-66 and dimensions are 345 millimeters by 110 millimeters by 70 millimeters; it weighs four kilograms.

Secunion has explosion-proof cameras for high-risk mineral and gas areas as well as products that are suited for coal mine applications.
