EADS-Belgacom Consortium and A.S.T.R.I.D. Reach Maintenance Contract

The EADS-Belgacom consortium has signed a new contract with the national operator A.S.T.R.I.D. for the maintenance of the TETRA secure radio-communications network, provincial command and control centers and the IT infrastructure. This contract is part of the continuity of service that the consortium has been providing since this network was created in Belgium in 1998. The contract will run for a minimum of five years, with an eight-year extension option, and amounts to around US$17.6 million per year.

The A.S.T.R.I.D. network is intended for Belgian emergency and safety services, State security organizations and public or private institutions, companies and associations that provide services in the rescue and security field. Around 50,000 users are now connected to the network.

The consortium will be responsible for the maintenance of the TETRA network, which is composed of around 500 base stations and is intended for secure digital voice and data communications. It will provide maintenance for the eleven provincial command and control centers which respond to emergency calls and manage teams in the field. The EADS-Belgacom consortium will also be responsible for IT maintenance including servers, firewalls and routers, and more.
