Augusta Systems, provider of technologies that power the intelligent convergence of devices, systems and networks, has been awarded a contract from the U.S. Navy's Office of Naval Research for the development of an intelligent surveillance system built upon Augusta Systems EdgeFrontier products.

The system will enable the integration of multiple types of monitoring technologies into a converged, intelligent solution, providing enhanced protection of military facilities and assets, including port and river security operations. The converged system will feature event or policy-based actions and a map-based user interface, providing a common operating picture for data visualization and management.

"This intelligent system, built upon EdgeFrontier platform technologies, will enhance the military's intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities," said Patrick Esposito, President and CEO of Augusta Systems. "Integrating multiple monitoring technologies into a converged system, under a common operating picture, provides a more efficient and effective security solution."

Through the new contract, Augusta Systems will utilize EdgeFrontier software to develop a converged system featuring unattended ground sensors, environmental threat detection systems and an intelligent visualization system. The surveillance system, designed for use at fixed locations or on-board unmanned vehicles, consists of Augusta Systems EdgeFrontier Appliance and panoramic imaging technologies from EyeSee360, Inc., which provide 360-degree images from a single location, eliminating the need for multiple cameras. Subcontractors and system component providers for the effort include EyeSee360 and California University of Pennsylvania, among others.

EdgeFrontier products from Augusta Systems support integration and normalization of data, events and control functions from diverse devices, systems and networks, regardless of manufacturer or communications protocol, including sensors, wireless sensor networks, RFID systems, video devices and systems, access control systems, metering and measurement devices, actuators, databases, file repositories and other sources. In addition, the EdgeFrontier product line provides structures for event processing and configuration of event or policy-based actions through a policy engine.
