The Golden Valley Casino is located in Worcester, about an hour away from Cape Town and situated amidst majestic mountain ranges, scenic landscapes, noble vineyards and blooming orchards. The casino offers various slots and gaming facilities, buffet restaurant, bar, hotel and even the town's alternative and sophisticated conference facility.
This Golden Valley Conference Center consists of a main conference room accommodating 90 people. In addition, there is a 10-seater breakaway room ideal for executive board meetings. The modern, high-tech conference facility is entirely self-contained, offering a comprehensive range of presentation equipment.
Opened in November 2006, the Golden Valley Casino is the first of a range of Sun International Casinos that deploys Dallmeier's latest video surveillance technology. It is the first casino in South Africa to use a real-time CCTV/IP system with digital matrix.
Failure-Safety and Minimum Downtime
The Dallmeier DIS-2/M, a modular recording and transmission device conceived for mounting and operation in a 19-inch module rack, was chosen. It ensures maximum availability of recorded data even in the case of network failures, guaranteeing the availability of a comprehensive solution.
The system also enables on the spot redundant recording, where hard disks of different capacities can be operated within one system. Linux operating system were used for all Dallmeier casino solution's digital hard disk recorders. The operating system was separated from the hard disks and relocated onto a flash-ROM to further increase stability.
Apart from the high failuresafety, service was also very important, said Jaco Coetzee, Management Company Director for Compliance and Tables at Sun International. Malfunctioning component can be exchanged and hot-plugged with every channel. System downtime is reduced with only the minimum effort required for system restoration.
Complete IP solution and User Friendliness
The Golden Valley Casino is installed with a pure IP solution, so network is an important issue. Since the system network was not for storage but acts as an interface between the operator and the system, its bandwidth requirement is low.
The Dallmeier management software — SeMSy — allows for video surveillance system's easy and convenient operation at Golden Valley Casino. It enables easy management and administration of different streams of media data and provides live display and recording of video/audio data at any point in a networked system. Additional network components can also be integrated into the system in the future, making the Golden Valley Casino project a model for successful installation.
