2020 Vision is celebrating the completion of a security contract worth more than US$150,720 for the Great North Museum, Hancock, due to open in this month. The company, which was tasked with ensuring that the museum's high security specifications were met, was chosen as the supplier of choice for the prestigious contract through its ongoing links with Newcastle University.

In order to provide a safe and secure environment for visitors, 2020 Vision installed 45 cameras throughout the museum, both internally and externally, which will serve to protect the museum and its exhibits.

Full operational control and security monitoring will be carried out in real time 24/7 from the Newcastle University security control room, with local control and display provided in the museum's command center.

George Westwater, Security Manager at Newcastle University who is responsible for the security at the Great North Museum, said, “2020 Vision is a professional company widely experienced in the installation and maintenance of CCTV systems. It is for this reason that Newcastle University has been using them to install CCTV on campus for more than five years. The company is extremely reliable and is capable of planning and installing the most complex of installations.

"During the recent refurbishment of the Hancock Museum, 2020 Vision was the chosen installers to design the CCTV system using the latest technology, which was extremely important to suit the museums high security CCTV specification.

Throughout this installation as well as previous ones the company has always prided itself by using only the highest quality equipment to ensure reliability and customer satisfaction.”

The technology supplied by 2020 Vision allows all cameras to record digitally, producing 25 images per second. All external cameras have color switching technology, which are optimized when light levels fall.

Peter Houlis, MD of 2020 Vision, said, “It has been a great achievement to have the chance to work on such a high profile project. 2020 Vision is extremely grateful that we have once again been given the opportunity to demonstrate our expertise in areas where levels of high security and safety are a premium.

"We've worked in conjunction with Newcastle University for a number of years now and we are proud that they call upon us again to assist with their security needs.”

The Great North Museum, formerly The Hancock Museum, has been transformed into a world-class visitor attraction as part of a $39.24 million Heritage Lottery fund-backed project. When the new museum opens on May 23 2009, it will be a flagship visitor attraction incorporating collections from the Hancock Museum and Newcastle University's Museum of Antiquities, the Shefton Museum and the Hatton Gallery.
