At a recent trade event, a&s had the pleasure of speaking with WAN Yat Han, MD for Gamma Solution, a value-added distributor active in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Myanmar.

With foreign direct investment temporarily on hold and recent price hikes in oil/gas and utilities, it is not particularly easy at the moment to develop or expand business in Malaysia. So, how do local solution providers improvise and find a new way out of this pickle?

Market diversification and value adds. "Trading or box moving is not enough," WAN shared. "Providing holistic solutions and timely postsale support locally makes all the difference. And that's what we have been doing to make up for decreasing margins, as customers would keep coming back to us or helping spread the word."

For Gamma, business is about services and about helping customers be more effective. In 2014, WAN is looking to offer more entry-level options, while maintaining Gamma's reputation for solution design and quality.
