SensFloor is a large-area capacitive sensor floor developed by Germany-based Future-Shape. From the first big project in 2012 with a senior care home in France to detect falls and keep secure, Future-Shape’s main target of healthcare occasions is settled.
Invisibly installed beneath the floor, every walk and step capacitance can trigger SensFloor to transmit data wirelessly to the central system, allowing further analysis of fall and activity, human presence, gait pattern, as well as localization. In hospitals, SensFloor can also help to evaluate rehabilitation exercises.

“When you look at the advantages you can get from the floor, the result is overwhelming. First of all, you get precise and real-time information of relevant location and steps from the floor without feeling it and affecting the walk. A scenario in a nursery home can go like this. Every room in the care center is displayed on the ward terminal color-coded to mark the different status. When one room is marked green, it means there is no activity sensed; when marked blue, the system shows that there is activity in the room. You can see how many people are standing or walking. And when it turns red, meaning there is someone lying on the floor, the emergency alerts will be triggered to the care takers. As shape and change of capacitance is simultaneously detected, alarm will not sound if five people standing together in a human shape. “SensFloor changes routine process of the care organizations into efficient care taking. Over a period of time there will be predictive effect. Organizations will know which patient need more attention based on the data collection, and they can provide assistance before any unwanted incident occurred,” said Burth.
Apart from healthcare segment as its core market, SensFloor has installations for interactive multimedia, cruise ships, retail shops, museums, and manufacture industry for security sensing, and human tracking and calculation.
Expanding global presence of SensFloor technology, Future-Shape is walking out of Central Europe to North America, Australia, and the Middle East, expecting various installations to bring efficiency to the users.
