From the seed to the plate, ALB-GOLD stands for highest pasta quality, largest variety and transparency. Since its founding in 1968, this Swabian family business has evolved into a flagship enterprise in the food industry.

The company's headquarters is situated in Trochtelfingen on the Swabian Alb. This area is the home of the Swabian Spaetzle and the cradle of pasta-making in Germany. ALB-GOLD manufactures more than 150 different pasta shapes with the finest raw materials.

The challenge
The existing video surveillance system was based on rigid coaxial cable and outdated IP cameras. Thus, an extension and modernization of this system would have required a considerable effort and costs. The ideal system should extend the monitoring capabilities to a more contemporary approach while staying easy to control. It should also be easily expandable in the future and supports ABUS network cameras. The company uses six ABUS IP cameras at their headquarters in Trochtelfingen. It goes without saying that all this should remain within a manageable budget.

The solution
After several Internet researches for various solutions on the market, Synology Surveillance Station was found. It was particularly impressive that the solution from Synology not only supports ABUS IP cameras but also numerous other camera manufacturers. After the DiskStation was comprehensively examined and tested, the company decided to purchase a Synology DiskStation. The NAS has been linked to the network and the ABUS cameras. By implementing the DiskStation all the requirements to the monitoring system were met.

Easy to use
The activated network cameras can be easily controlled by connected users. Thanks to the intuitive interface of Surveillance Station, the setup of the cameras was done in a breeze. Shortly after, adding more network cameras to the system, and setting up different user privileges were also an easy process. The entire system was fully operational in a few short steps. It has been running since then without any interruption.

Fast expandability
The Synology DiskStation provides up to 8TB of storage space. If needed, it can be expanded with a Synology expansion unit in no time to a total up to 28TB. This feature came handy to keep a certain flexibility to meet future demands while maintaining the initial budget as low as possible.

Multitasking
Surveillance Station is an additional package that works under Synology's operating system DiskStation Manager (DSM). In addition to Surveillance Station, Synology offers many other functions/modules such as FTP Server, NFS for file sharing, GLPI for management resource.
