IIoT to be an integral part of public safety, says outdoor security provider

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) will become a major part of public security initiatives that try to take advantage of the new technological developments and make cities safer, according to V5 Systems, an outdoor multi-sensor security solution provider.

Citing a Frost & Sullivan report, Mike Grosswald, VP of Global Sales and Partnerships at V5 Systems said as public funding goes down, police forces will increasingly harness data, analytics and IoT technologies to protect citizens more cost effectively.

“Industrial IoT devices and platforms will be increasingly deployed in a raft of public safety programs that seek to harness technology to make the urban environment safer and more secure,” said Grosswald. “Law enforcement will use web intelligence and ‘big data’ analytics to maintain service levels as budgets are cut.”

V5 has produced the next generation of outdoor security with a wireless multi-sensor portable security solution. This intelligent device is an edge computing IoT platform with advanced analytics, power, computing and communication. The sensors include HD video, acoustic detection and the soon-to-be-introduced chemical detection technology.

The company expects several factors to drive demand for its products. These include rising global security concerns, lack of adequate security personnel and concerns on installation costs. Their potential customers range from critical infrastructure to agricultural.

“Our target customers are anyone in need of security without access to power or data,” Grosswald said. “Our vertical markets are law enforcement, government, military, school campus, enterprise, agricultural, oil & gas, transportation and sporting venues.”

V5’s solution can be configured and installed in under 60 minutes and can be deployed as a standalone system or to enhance existing security infrastructure.
