Advantech, a premier Taiwan industrial equipment provider, has taken its smart retail solutions to secutech this year, helping end users reach their customers more effectively.
One of the solutions features Advantech’s own industrial PC with strong processing and analytics capability. It is then integrated with digital signage and a camera, which captures the shopper standing in front of it and sends the data to the PC for processing and analysis, for example the person’s gender, age, and the clothes that he/she is wearing. The signage will then display a series of garments that the person may prefer, or advertisement that suits the person’s profile.
“We’ve spoken with various retail clients to find out what their needs are. We then integrate our hardware with software to develop solutions that meet those needs,” said Patrick Chen, PM at Advantech.
Advantech deals mostly with systems integrators who deploy the solution at various end user entities. But for certain projects that are more complex, for example department stores, hypermarkets, or large-scale franchises, Advantech does the systems integration itself. The solution is found in retailers throughout the world.
While the IT industry has become increasingly competitive, Advantech’s clear market position – providing industrial-grade products and equipment – has helped it survive the competition. “For industrial PCs, they carry a higher technology threshold. We customize our products to the specific demands of different vertical markets. And the products need to have strong waterproof, dustproof, and vibration-proof features,” Chen said. “Not many people can do that, and this is what makes us unique.”
