A-tec Subsystems, a Taiwan-based supplier, discusses the benefits of closed circuit HDTV (ccHDtv) at Secutech. With the popularity of IP and IoT technology growing, ccHDtv remains a strong player in the security industry. Thomas Lin, President of A-tec Subsystems, talked to a&s about some new markets that have opportunities in the security industry, and what benefits ccHDtv can bring.

In the banking sector, network cameras are normally used to monitor their premises. However, the higher the resolution, the higher the bandwidth that is required. More often than not, depending on the IT infrastructure, network cameras have difficulty functioning smoothly if the infrastructure cannot supply the bandwidth needed. According to Lin, Ethernet network bandwidth can be limited, and even worse when there are multiple IP cameras in the network. Poor IT infrastructure may lead to frame drops, or video encoded at a lower bit rate.

ccHDtv on the other hand, is a solution for transmitting full HD digital video in a surveillance system. The main idea of ccHDtv is to deliver high definition video using digital TV (DTV) transmission. With this technology, bandwidth is not an issue, while high definition digital video can be transmitted over coaxial cables, twisted pairs, or over the air. Able to use existing cables form analog systems, ccHDtv is a convenient solution for installation, and can supports long transmission.
