Synectics delivers site security solution to the Gorgon project

Synectics delivers site security solution to the Gorgon project
Synectics has developed and delivered a site security solution to one of the world’s largest natural gas projects. The Chevron-operated Gorgon Project is the biggest single resource development in Australia’s history. Chevron needed a solution for the Gorgon Project that would cover a vast and geographically diverse area, with the ability to monitor, manage and protect the plant and facilities.

Synectics provided an integrated end-to-end Synergy command and control system with over 230 COEX camera stations, including hazardous and safe area TriMode PTZs.

A subsea gas gathering system and pipelines delivers gas from the Gorgon and Jansz-lo gas fields to a three-train, 15.6 million tonne per annum (MTPA) Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) processing plant on Barrow Island. The project also includes a domestic gas plant with the capacity to supply 300 terrajoules of gas per day.

Barrow Island has been a Class A nature reserve since 1910, located 60km off the northwest coast of Western Australia, and is an internationally important conservation estate.

Synectics supplied over 230 COEX camera stations including hazardous area and safe area TriMode PTZs to protect the site in terms of process monitoring, safety monitoring and security. These camera stations are located in the materials offloading facility, jetty, LNG plant, utilities area and on the mainland.

Synectics’TriMode PTZ camera stations were specified to meet stringent capability requirements, including heat emission and temperature change detection, full functionality in no / low light conditions, and guaranteed image capture at extreme temperatures.

An essential requirement for the project was the centralized operator command and control, with additional capability for both remote and local operation and viewing.
