Top 10 security news stories of 2015

Top 10 security news stories of 2015
The top 10 security new stories from 2015 on asmag.com.

In the last of the 2015 top 10 series, asmag.com presents the top 10 security corporate news stories of 2015, all uploaded between December 2014 and December 2015. The stories included in this list originate from corporate websites as official press releases and were either submitted to or found by asmag.com editors.

2015 was an eventful year for the security industry. There were a number of high-profile terrorist attacks and shootings that stunned the world. The mass shooting at Charlie Hedbo in January, bombing in Bangkok and then in Paris in August and Novemeber, respectively, and mass shooting in San Bernadino, California, all reminded the world that violent attacks can happen anywhere in the world. As a result, global security awareness has definitely risen.

Furthermore, 2015 saw several major mergers and acquisitions (M&As) such as Avigilon's acquisition of ObjectVideo, Canon's acquisition of Axis Communications, Hanhwa Group's acquisition of Samsung Techwing (now Hanhwa Techwin), and NICE System's selling of it's physical security business unit to Battery Ventures (now Qognify), just to name a few.

Despite what many have described as a lack of real innovation in the security industry as of late, technological advances have continued, resulting in the release of better, faster, more reliable products. Furthermore, as competition increases, more and more companies are looking for partnerships inside and outside of the industry to strengthen their offerings.
