CalAtlantic's command and operation center protected by Aimetis

CalAtlantic's command and operation center protected by Aimetis
CalAtlantic has been a leader in the security industry for over a decade. In the beginning, their main focus was on providing security services and security integration. As the industry moved away from analog into the digital age, CalAtlantic’s focus shifted to specializing in business intelligence, providing services through solution based products. These services include the design and installation of IP based physical security systems running Aimetis Symphony. These services can include managed security services that connect to a command and operation center comprised of a network operation center, a security operation center and a situational awareness center.

CalAtlantic’s command and operation centre monitors and manages the security of thousands of active clients across the United States from their headquarters in Houston, Texas. By incorporating Aimetis Symphony, all of CalAtlantic’s customers can be managed centrally from one location 24/7. It is essential that everything function at peak performance at all times, which is where Aimetis Symphony comes into play. Symphony enables staff to monitor alarms and manage the system on a regular basis, which allows for the resolution of issues even before they arise. As a result of this experience, CalAtlantic is both a systems integrator and power user of Aimetis technology. This provides a unique capability that is very uncommon in the physical security industry.

“The reality is not so much based on what we catch. It is the hundreds of thousands of dollars that we protect because we are watching and managing these security and enterprise resource management systems,” said Dan Goodhall, CEO of CalAtlantic. “We can be proactive and get out in front to solve any issues before they become a problem. This is what true business intelligence should be doing.”

One of the biggest challenges that CalAtlantic faces with monitoring numerous facilities is reducing false alarms, which can be triggered by inclement weather conditions or poor lighting. To minimize the occurrence of false alarms, CalAtlantic uses the power of Aimetis analytics for perimeter detection and security breaches.

Customer assets are also protected using layering techniques. This involves setting up different levels of authentication. For example, a level 1 authentication is set up through an ID access card, which is then authenticated through a database query for access control. Voice recognition can then be used as a level 2 authentication. All this data is captured by the Aimetis video management system for future reference. “Aimetis is at the core of that platform, which allows us to layer multiple levels of security from the facility’s perimeter into the interior. This security ring enables us to protect everything from a small interior area to a large exterior area that spans thousands of acres,” Goodhall added.

An exciting new endeavor for both CalAtlantic and Aimetis is the recent opportunity to work with a large European automobile manufacturer. This new project is a collaboration to make its port of entries in the United States smarter and more sophisticated. Going forward, CalAtlantic is keen to utilize new technologies, such as latitude and longitude tracking, as well as 3D and 4D imaging. “We are really getting excited about the improvement in analytics by using classification,” said Goodhall. “I’ve been in the industry for more than 35 years and I am probably more excited now than I ever have been with what we are capable of doing today with software and technology. If you are a visionary and an entrepreneur, it’s like being a kid in a candy store every day.”
