Johnson Controls and Shanghai Jianke Building Energy Service together will improve the energy efficiency of buildings in Shanghai and help the city achieve sustainable development.

Johnson Controls is a global leader in building and energy management solutions while Shanghai Jianke Building Energy Service, a subsidiary of Shanghai Research Institute of Building Sciences Group, focuses on buildings' energy-saving and sustainable development. Under the alliance, both companies, leveraging their respective strengths, will set up project teams to help customers achieve energy efficiency goals. Both companies will also strengthen technical training, promote new energy-efficient building applications and develop new energy-saving services.

According to China Intelligent Building Industry Development Prospects and Investment Strategy Report, there are more than 50 billion square meters of buildings in China of which over 90 percent are energy intensive. Even in cities, only 23 percent of the building area is energy-efficient.

For a major city like Shanghai, which continues to develop rapidly, energy consumption by buildings is increasing at about 10 percent per year, aggravating the energy shortage problem. Furthermore, Shanghai now has a large number of aged buildings with old equipment and low operational efficiency.

"Helping old buildings become more energy-efficient -- improving many by more than 20 percent -- as well as constructing new buildings that save energy is a key goal of this strategic alliance between Johnson Controls and Shanghai Jianke Building Energy Service," said Elvis Chan, vice president of Business Development, Johnson Controls.

"Whether it's about resource, environmental pressure, or need for a comfortable environment, improving building energy efficiency is critical. Recognized for its service and technical expertise by the local market, we are pleased to have Johnson Controls partner with us in this energy efficiency management and optimization program," said Ye Qian, Chairman of Shanghai Jianke Building Energy Service Co., Ltd.

Buildings in Shanghai that use Johnson Controls solutions include Shanghai World Financial Center, Pudong International Airport, Expo and Hongta Hotel. As the world's leading one-stop building solutions provider, Johnson Controls has over 120 years of experience in providing advanced building energy solutions and services in China. "This alliance highlights our commitment to creating a safe, comfortable and sustainable environment across China," added Chan.
