Verint Systems announced that São Bernardo do Campo has deployed a comprehensive security intelligence platform that includes Verint Video Management Software, Verint Situation Management Center and Verint IP Cameras as part of its “Safe City Program.” The goal of the initiative was to implement comprehensive supporting technology to facilitate collaboration between the city's municipal agencies to enhance public safety.

The City of São Bernardo do Campo, located in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, is home to more than 750,000 people. Like many large urban centers, São Bernardo do Campo has a myriad of civil agencies that are responsible for helping ensure public safety and the delivery of public services, such as transportation, education and healthcare. As such, coordination and communication between these agencies is paramount. Leading the charge to bring them together was the Secretaria de Segurança Urbana (Department of Urban Security), the municipal body responsible for forming and implementing public municipal city security policies.

In June 2014, the municipality deployed Verint's comprehensive security platform to bridge together a network of more than 400 surveillance cameras, 400 panic buttons, 100 vehicles and 20 meteorological sensors, along with numerous other sensors. This integrated platform has helped streamline operations and expedite investigations across São Bernardo do Campo, including traffic violations, civil defense and police activities. The platform was chosen after a bidding process was awarded to Informatica El Corte Ingles, which coordinated a consortium of three additional entities for the municipality.

“We are proud of the protection we provide to the city. The deployment of this video network represents a key investment we have made in our ongoing effort to make São Bernardo do Campo a better place to live,” says Benedito Domingos Mariano, Secretaria de Segurança Urbana. “Verint's security intelligence solutions have enabled an end-to-end system that is central to how we maintain a safe city environment for our residents.”

The Verint Situation Management Center solution generates Actionable Intelligence® from vast amounts of data, while facilitating system management and optimizing costs. The system delivers immediate situational awareness and rapid response leveraging an intuitive, multi-layer user interface and efficient organizational control and management through systemic procedures and standards. Verint Video Management Software streamlines video security operations to help users make sense of the vast volumes of video and data that are captured at an enterprise or citywide level. The software features powerful, fully integrated video management tools, including automated system health monitoring and event responses, investigation management, a software-based virtual matrix, interactive facility maps, a powerful and intuitive video viewing interface, and an ultra-thin client for remote/mobile users.

“São Bernardo do Campo is leading the way for other urban areas by leveraging Verint's advanced technology that provides new levels of public safety,” says Steve Weller, senior vice president and general manager, Video and Situation Intelligence Solutions, Verint. “The city has taken a proactive approach to improving security operations, which has led to a successful initiative that can serve as a model for other cities.”
