ALCON wireless solution makes Indonesia harbor monitoring easier

ALCON wireless solution makes Indonesia harbor monitoring easier
In 2006, as the W-iFi technology was blooming, the Indonesia harbor administration department was looking for wireless transmission solution for analog speed dome cameras, so they could monitor the traffic of containerships conveniently.

Requirements and challenges:
In 2006, as the W-iFi technology was blooming, the Indonesia harbor administration department was looking for wireless transmission solution for analog speed dome cameras, so they could monitor the traffic of containerships conveniently. They also want the wireless systems to be easily installed and maintained. And the durability was also important for them. However, it was a time that most of the Wi-Fi solutions do not come with a utility for users to do centralized management.

Solution:
The local system integrator came to ALCON with such requirement and asking for assistance. We asked the system integrator to conduct a site survey to find out the distances between the control room and each location, if line-of-sight available, the bandwidth taken by each camera, and the power supply system.

ALCON selected ASU-24005g, the most top-selling product. This compact size model has a flat panel antenna built in, and powered by PoE (Power over Ethernet).

PoE is a technology which passes electrical power along with data on Ethernet cabling. This allows a single cable to provide both data connection and electrical power to devices such as wireless devices or IP cameras.

It also comes with a centralized management utility, the AP Locator, which shows basic information of all connected ASU-24005g.

Considering the speed dome cameras are analog type, ALCON recommended an encoder and decoder system that converts the data type. The encoder converts the analog data into digital type for ASU-24005g transmission while the decoder converts it back to analog type so the video streaming could be stored on DVR or seen on the TV wall.

Performance feedback:
ALCON's wireless solution is fully capable of transmitting video streaming, as well as the PTZ function. The installation could be done in seconds as you just need to fix ASU-24005g on a pole with a metal ring, and both data and power go through the CAT5 cable which is 25m length.

This kind of installation saves a lot of time and cost on man power. Not to mention its user friendly utility AP Locator provides a convenient maintenance afterward.

*Our latest model AMU24 is designed to replace ASU-24005g. It uses 11n 300Mbps technology which provides better performance than ever.
