Over speeding is one of the most seen reasons that causes highway accidents; however, there are hundreds of people get killed in the car accidents on this highway in Mongolia every year. This horribly high death toll drives policy agency to install speed detection system, in order to lower the rates of car accidents and death.

Over speeding is one of the most seen reasons that causes highway accidents; however, there are hundreds of people get killed in the car accidents on this highway in Mongolia every year. This horribly high death toll drives policy agency to install speed detection system, in order to lower the rates of car accidents and death.
The selected locations to install speed detecting systems are in the middle of the highway, where cabling is totally impossible. Also, these locations are far away from any highway policy offices. On the top of it, the selected devices/system must be able to work in low temperature environment where it could drops to -30 Celsius degree in the winter.
Solution:
The main challenges of this project would be: 1) how to connect all systems scattered among different locations back to the control tower by wireless technology; 2) how to setup wireless system with a user friendly interface as not all policemen are familiar with wireless technology; 3) how to make sure the devices work under -30 Celsius degree environment.
ALCON CPE-2405g, with high gain antenna built-in, is perfect for this project. This wireless device is able to reach 7km, and do point-to-multipoint deployment. It comes with a user friendly utility which shows all devices to be managed on the same window interface conveniently. It takes just couple clicks on the managing interface to obtain more information or proceed configuration among the devices.
For low environment temperature issue, its true outdoor enclosure, IP68 rated, provides a closed space which keeps temperature stable inside. This ensures CPE-2405g keep working without affected by the low temperature outside while many other brands would just “freeze”.
The cameras were selected by the highway policy agency which support day & night vision, car plate recognition and speed detection. Its interface is standard Ethernet port (RJ45) and we just need to connect the cameras and CPE-2405g by switches.
Performance feedback:
“It is out of our expectation,” said the administrator of highway policy agency. “all of us could receive instant images, recognize the car plate and issue tickets to those over-speed drivers. It works so great that we could see the faces clearly even at night!” This project was done in 2009 till now. The whole system still works amazingly.
