The oil and gas sector not only mainly supports the economy growth in the Middle East, but also the countries in Africa. Nigeria is also one of them. The oil and gas sector accounts for about 35 percent of the GDP of Nigeria. The petroleum exports revenue accounts for about 70 percent of the total export revenue in Nigeria, according to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries. Nigeria is also well known as the most populous country in Africa. However, the country's civil unrest over ethnic and religious conflicts, and violent campaigns hindered foreign investment toward Nigeria's economy.

a&s spent time with a dealer, system integrator, and installer from Nigeria at secutech 2014. The industry expert from Nigeria commented these year's civil unrest make people have high security consciousness. “In 7 or 8 years ago, there was not much security demand from a small shop. However, in these few years, many small shops have started to ask for CCTV equipment,” she said. “We own three stores in Nigeria and provide the end users security products with installation service. We are also an experienced systems integrator for some big projects, like refineries.”

Even though 90 percent of security demand is still analog due to the poor networking infrastructure, the percentage of IP product sales is still increasing. In Africa, “If we buy from some local distributors, the price sometimes is really high for us. So, we go to different trade shows to look for more high quality products with reasonable price. The products from Taiwan and Korea are very good and our customers usually have no problems with their products. However, we have some issues in shipping from these countries and applying for Visa. In contrast, China has more advantages here. We have been doing business with some Chinese companies for several years. We found some good products from China too, which were used in some key projects here in Nigeria. We are quite surprised at its quality since it is very similar to some other brands from North America.”
