Bosch Communication Center protects rail freight goods for DB Schenker
Bosch Communication Center has been handling alarm management for rail transport between Asia and Europe for DB Schenker Logistics, a leading provider of integrated logistics services, since the beginning of July 2013. Using modern telematics systems, the Bosch security monitoring center monitors the containers transported by DB Schenker Logistics over their entire journey to protect the goods against theft or sabotage.

Bosch Communication Center has been handling alarm management for rail transport between Asia and Europe for DB Schenker Logistics, a provider of integrated logistics services, since the beginning of July 2013. Using modern telematics systems, the Bosch security monitoring center monitors the containers transported by DB Schenker Logistics over their entire journey to protect the goods against theft or sabotage.

Security and Transparency throughout the Transport Chain
In order to protect the freight goods, the DB Schenker Smartbox is attached to the container on the train. This security module monitors the status of the container via GPRS, making it possible to measure parameters such as temperature, humidity, door status, container tilt, and vibrations.Together with accelerating force and GPS real-time coordinates, it can measure up to 52 containers at once. If the parameters deviate from the default values, the communications module triggers an alarm at the DB Schenker monitoring center. In turn, the alarm is then forwarded to the Bosch internal monitoring center, where associates implement all of the necessary measures that have been defined in advance as part of an intervention plan. These measures include informing the relevant contacts and service providers to ensure that the goods are secured without delay. The transparency of the supply chain allows the customer to guarantee that goods are tracked continuously in the case of insurance claims, and to provide documented evidence. "We are pleased that the first monitored container transports between China and Kazakhstan have run to schedule and without any further incidents," says Karlheinz Fleckenstein, Manager of the Bosch Monitoring Center.

Comprehensive Alarm Management
As one of the three business areas at Bosch Sicherheitssysteme GmbH, Bosch Communication Center has developed over the last 25 years into one of the leading private providers of security monitoring centers in Germany. While the Bosch emergency and monitoring center mainly monitored hazard alert systems during its early years, the center's portfolio now also includes a technical receiver platform for transferring alarms to the police and fire departments. It also includes video technology and services for monitoring processes and mobile objects. The associates use state-of-the-art technology to monitor a wide range of objects as well as people, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.Bosch can therefore help prevent hazards or costly damage in a targeted and efficient manner.

At the beginning of 2012, the Bosch emergency and monitoring center was certified in line with the new European standard EN 50518. The center's successful model already enables Bosch to oversee Europe-wide alarm monitoring and intervention from its sites in Germany. In the future, this will be extended to further locations that will be integrated into the network of the EN 50518-certified alarm receiving center via a central platform.
