City surveillance in Taiwan turns to IP-based surveillance

City surveillance in Taiwan turns to IP-based surveillance

The Kaohsiung city is the most populated city in the southern part of Taiwan. To better protect this city against crime and crisis, Kaohsiung City Police Department looked to upgrade its video surveillance system.

The challenges they were facing are that the surveillance system must be far reaching, capable of delivering the high quality video during the day and at night, and at a low total cost of ownership and maintenance. The police officers will reply heavily on the system for the traffic monitoring, car number plate surveillance, avenue surveillance, etc. The scale of this project is around 4000 cameras, and is deemed the biggest government project in Taiwan in 2013.

To meet the strict requirements set by the authority, Brickcom teamed up with Digiever to propose the complete solution for the Full-HD IP surveillance over long distances, and won this project as the sole camera and NVR provider. The proposed system includes the Brickcom Night Vision Fixed Box Camera, Ethernet-over-Coax convertor, and the Digiever 32-channel Rack-Mount NVR.

Another key factor which convinced the authority is the idea of "complete solution". Brickcom proposed the Ethernet-over-Coax convertor, which is part of Brickcom's BrickOne Solution and is designed to carry the video streaming data and power simultaneously over a distance of 1 kilometer. Compared with the PoE which runs at most 100 meters without any repeating device, convertor makes a substantial difference in the operating distance, equipment investment and maintenance cost.

"We understand that the safety of the city can never be over-emphasized, so we are very serious about offering the solution with the highest standards" said Ebony Huang, CEO of Brickcom. In addition to the great team work, “Digiever and Brickcom took one step further by providing the complete solution, which shows our commitment to customer satisfaction.” quoted Jacky Cheng, CEO of Digiever.
