Kansas public schools get summer security makeover
Identive Group and Aventura Technologies are partnering to implement a comprehensive, centralized security system for the Wichita Public Schools system. Identive Group and Aventura Technologies are partnering to implement a comprehensive, centralized security system for the Wichita Public Schools system. The US$3 million project is designed to make campuses more secure and provide local first responders with better information to protect more than 100 schools as well as district offices and other sites in Wichita, Kansas.

The new system closely integrates Identive's Hirsch access control and security management solutions into Aventura's digital video surveillance platform to provide the Wichita school district with modernized security capabilities encompassing video surveillance, access control and visitor management. Working with local law enforcement as well as school board and school administration personnel, the two companies will pilot the new system over the summer at an area elementary, middle and high school. The pilots will help all participants to learn how to use the system effectively and to develop rollout models for each of the school types prior to the beginning of the next school year.

“Partnering with Identive allows us to incorporate market-leading Hirsch access control and visitor-management solutions into our persistent surveillance architecture in order to offer a comprehensive security platform that is intuitive and easy-to-use,” said Jack Cabasso, Managing Director of Aventura. “Like school districts across the country, Wichita Public Schools is working to anticipate evolving challenges to ensure the safety of students, staff and parents.” The solution that Aventura and Identive have developed for the district is designed to deter criminal activity, increase reliability and performance, enable a coordinated response to security events and give security staff remote visibility and access to all systems.

“The global security industry is undergoing a major shift from proprietary to open platform technologies, making it possible to combine best in class systems to create seamless, interoperable solutions,” said Scott Elliott, Director of Government Sales for Identive. Identive continues to seek partnerships with companies that excel in their areas of expertise, and their expanded partnership with Aventura has resulted in the Wichita school district centralized surveillance and access control solution. Identive looks forward to collaborating on future projects with Aventura.
