Morpho (Safran), through its subsidiary Morpho Detection, announced that Infraero, Brazil's national airport operator, has purchased 45 Itemiser DX desktop explosives trace detection (ETD) systems.

A lightweight, portable desktop system, Itemiser DX can detect residue from explosives on skin, clothing, parcels, bags, cargo, vehicles and other surfaces. Under terms of the contract, all systems will be deployed to airports in Brazil later this year to support passenger and baggage screening efforts.

“Morpho Detection is pleased that Infraero has recognized the operational capabilities of Itemiser DX by placing their first order for this industry-leading desktop trace solution,” said Brad Buswell, President and CEO, Morpho Detection. “Itemiser DX is another example of Morpho Detection's commitment to helping enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the aviation security screening processes through the deployment of advanced technologies.”

During a trial closely supported by Proscan, Morpho Detection's local partner, Itemiser DX underwent comprehensive testing and evaluation prior to being qualified by Infraero for use in Brazil. Looking to comply with global security regulations in advance of major events including the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics in Brazil, Infraero chose Itemiser DX to replace legacy systems and help provide the highest level of security possible.

“Our close coordination with Proscan was key to the success of this process,” said Marcio Lambert, Managing Director, Morpho Seguransa do Brazil. “As Brazil continues to increase airport capacity and enhance security capabilities, Morpho is committed to expanding our footprint in Brazil and collaboration with local partners to meet current and emerging market needs.”
