US pizza franchise in China puts finger on operations and attendance

Restaurants of US pizza franchise Papa John's in China have deployed DigitalPersona fingerprint biometrics to speed and secure employees' and managers' daily tasks. More than 30 company-owned restaurants in northern China are using DigitalPersona fingerprint readers with NCR restaurant (formerly Compris) POS software to record employee time and attendance, as well as authorize overrides and discounts.

The pizza franchise employees previously used smart cards to record their time and attendance. Managers used the cards to authorize discounts, voids and overrides. However, smart cards can be shared, lost or forgotten. In a fast-paced environment, the pizza franchise needs a solution that provides their employees and managers with a secure and convenient method when performing daily tasks. The fingerprint readers allow employees to clock in for their shift and managers to approve voids and overrides with a touch of their finger.

"The fingerprint readers save our managers and employees time, increase productivity and eliminate the costs of managing smart cards," said Papa John's Beijing.

The fingerprint readers can be found in many biometrically enabled POS terminals and are supported by a variety of commercial POS applications. "Fingerprint biometrics has become the authentication method of choice for quick-serve restaurants," said Gary Oberman, Director of Worldwide POS Sales at DigitalPersona. "Fingerprint readers are a mature, reliable technology that can be deployed quickly and easily, enabling an immediate ROI."
