Indian medical school and training hospital fortify premises with digital surveillance
Bareilly’s Medical College and Hospital, a medical school and training hospital in Uddar Pradesh, India, deployed Hikvision analog cameras and DVRs to fortify its premises. The system was implemented by local system integrator Coral Infocom (CI), who previously worked on a similar project at the Clara Swain Hospital. Deepanshu Gupta, Managing Director of CI devised a scalable solution to for the large facility, which encompasses more than 1km of campus space. Hikvision Digital Technology analog video surveillance components utilized for the project include D/N camera, IR weather-proof bullet camera, DIS dome, WDR D/N box camera, embedded net DVR, and standalone DVR.

Bareilly's Medical College and Hospital, a medical school and training hospital in Uddar Pradesh, India, deployed Hikvision analog cameras and DVRs to fortify its premises.

An example of the project's scalability is demonstrated through the standalone DVR that allows the hospital to retain existing CCTV cameras, said Gupta. Yet, the introduction of new Hikvision cameras called for an additional DVR model. Thus, the embedded net DVR was called upon. In this case, security staff could access features, such as 1024×768 VGA output resolution, support of live view, and backup / playback of HD images. But the key was improved resolution, which was achieved through the DVR's 4CIF resolution real-time recording, said Gupta.

The D/N camera was dispatched throughout the hospital interior. The camera utilizes its compact structure design and is placed on both ceilings and walls. With features including 1/3 inch Sony CCD, D/N auto switch, and backlight compensation; this dome camera prevents pick-pocketing and the theft of costly medicine at the pharmacy, as well as improving the vital administrative function of tracking the movement of patients throughout the various wards.

Guarding the main entrance gates, and providing 30 meters of coverage, is Hikvision's IR weather-proof bullet camera. Specifically, this camera is placed on outdoor security guard stations at a height of 3.5 meters. The camera's IR functionality serves the dual purpose of providing coverage in the evening, offering coverage during power outages, which commonly occurs in India, explained Gupta. Additional bonuses, such as the IP66 weather rating is very handy in the unforgiving daytime heat and cooler evenings. Conversely, providing coverage in the hospital's three reception rooms is the DIS dome. These areas rely on the dome's support of a 4 - 9mm varifocal lens and 3-axis (pan/tilt/rotation) adjustment positioning to allow for optimum camera rotation and placement to “get the perfect angle,” noted Gupta.

The main out-patient department is manned by the WDR D/N box camera due to particular lighting conditions.“This room is largely surrounded by glass,” explained Gupta. “As such, it suffers from extreme lighting challenges, and many cameras simply were not able to adjust to the bright days and dark nights.” The camera's 160x WDR was particularly suited for strong backlight environments, and is complemented with auto white balance, auto gain control, electronic shutter control, plus backlight compensation. With the completion of installments in the first phase of the project, the client has ordered additional cameras for the next phase, said Gupta.
