The Civic Museum of Cerreto displays about 400 items, mostly from the golden age of ceramic manufacture in Cerreto in the 18th century. The museum's ancient and modern collections include collections from the heirs of historian Vincenzo Mazzacane. A video surveillance system was deemed necessary to protect the priceless exhibits.

The museum's analog video surveillance system was replaced by Axis Communications' small network cameras designed to fit into the architectural context without being obtrusive. The choice was two palm-sized PTZ domes with HD resolution, capable of generating H.264 and M-JPEG video streams with limited bandwidth. The two cameras monitor the entrance and the staircases to the mezzanine floor.

Additionally, eight indoor HD compact cameras with built-in IR and five outdoor models of similar functionality were installed. The eight cameras provide surveillance of the various rooms of the basement and mezzanine, except for one that supports the PTZ at the entrance. Axis further minimized setup using PoE power supply that made installation easier in the absence of power cables. The system allows for remote monitoring and display of multiple filming angles in real time, on a PC as well as a 32-inch monitor positioned at the entrance of the museum that serves as a deterrent. Delocalized storage on NAS with 4-TB capacity off-site offers a further layer of security.

The Axis Camera Companion's simple and intuitive control allows users to search for recordings and export footage and snapshots instantly. The scalability of the system will easily accommodate new cameras that will monitor the new areas that the town hall administration intends to open in the near future.

“The system fully satisfies our initial requirements, such as discretion, integration with the structure and performance,” said Letizio Napoletano, PM at the Municipality of Cerreto Sannita.
