Contactless card reader speeds up medical access
Medical staff can now securely access the patient data and applications they need, wherever they are, simply by swiping their hospital ID card over a smart reader. Medical staff can now securely access the patient data and applications they need, wherever they are, simply by swiping their hospital ID card over a smart reader.

The new solution is the latest collaboration between HID Global and technology company Dell. It integrates HID Global's OMNIKEY 5321 reader with Dell's Mobile Clinical Computing (MCC).

MCC uses data virtualization to connect information to a user's online identity making it available on any device. This dramatically improves mobility as healthcare professionals can log on to any approved computer or tablet to access the data and online tools they need.

The OMNIKEY 5321 reader provides the high-level authorization needed for hospital and external solutions, quickly and securely. Users swipe an appropriate smart card, such as their ID card, over the reader and enter a unique password. This is not only time efficient but eliminates the need to remember log-in credentials for the multitude of platforms throughout a hospital.

Gustavo Gassman, Director of Sales at HID Global in Brazil, says the solution is ideal for hospitals where professionals need to share computers and systems. "Beside the ease of use of the technology, security is guaranteed for the multiple users who share the same machines."
