As with any residential estate, the perimeter of the property presents a real risk in terms of unauthorized entry and criminal activity. Hymax Gauteng, Aspen Hills' security system integrator, selected Axis thermal network cameras in order to overcome the challenge of providing a surveillance solution in a completely dark environment.

Aspen Hills Nature Estate, situated among the historic hills and dales of the Klipriviersberg, offers countrystyle living only 8 km from the central business district of the southern suburbs of Johannesburg. One of the most critical issues affecting South African households today is crime. Eliminating the guesswork
Hymax Gauteng recognized that, in order for Aspen Hills to provide their residents with adequate security, the estate's perimeter required round-the-clock monitoring by a surveillance system that is capable of high quality detection and wide range coverage. Since Axis thermal network cameras create images based on the heat that every object, person or vehicle radiates, the cameras are able to detect any suspicious activity taking place in their field of vision, even in complete darkness.
Hymax Gauteng selected the AXIS Q1921 Thermal Network Camera for this installation. AXIS Q1921 features motion detection, audio detection, and detection of tampering attempts and is immune to such challenging conditions as darkness, dust, haze and fog. “The extensive range of Axis products and the availability of thermal network cameras make it easy to ensure that the customer gets the perfect fit for their specific requirement,” says Habib.
NUUO video management software manages all of the feeds from the thermal cameras. This footage is monitored off-site by an armed response company via a high quality wireless link and stored externally for inspection in the event of an incident or query. Security guards patrolling Aspen Hills can be contacted and dispatched in a timely manner to areas of the estate affected by suspected or apparent criminal activity.
An environmentally friendly solution
As a result of Hymax Gauteng's experience in solar solutions, Aspen Hills selected the greener option when it came to powering its surveillance system. Although battery back-up is available for emergencies, the optic fiber network ring is driven predominantly by solar power. Aspen Hills continues to focus on providing the most effective, advanced security in order to safeguard residents and their assets. IP cameras are being rolled out to monitor other high risk areas.
