Samsung's new SNB-5001 1.3 megapixel network camera is designed to provide an affordable HD video surveillance solution for retail and office type environments.
“Worldwide there are thousands of video surveillance systems being installed each week where the superb quality images which can be captured by HD cameras, could help users take their security to a much higher level,” said Tim Biddulph, IP Product Manager for Samsung Techwin Europe. “Until now, the relatively high price of HD cameras has prohibited their use for the vast majority of these installations. We have produced the SNB-5001 specifically to overcome this problem in that it incorporates most of the important features associated with HD technology, but at an affordable price level.”
The ONVIF compliant SNB-5001 supports H.264 and MJPEG compression methods, providing the option to simultaneously transmit images to multiple locations at various frame rates, including 1.3 megapixel (1280 x 1024), 16:9HD (1280 x 720), QVGA (320 x 240), SVGA (800x 600) and VGA (640 x 480). A number of different users, if authorised, are therefore able to monitor live images at one location, record video evidence at another or view live and recorded images on a Smartphone or iPhone via the Samsung iPOLiS application.
A scene change tampering feature incorporated into the SNB-5001 creates an alert if, for example, paint is sprayed on a camera lens or if there is unauthorised movement of a camera away from its usual field of view. Four programmable Motion Detection zones, 12 programmable Privacy Zones and PoE (Power over Ethernet) are just a few of the additional features built into the SNB-5001 which also has a Day/Night feature which automatically configures the camera to capture either colour or B/W images depending on the prevailing lighting conditions. Fully compatible with Samsung's license free NET-i-Viewer software, the SNB-5001 has a multi–language webpage for easy set up.
“Although ideal for applications where a large number of HD cameras are required, the price point of the SNB-5001 means that it can also provide a cost effective option as a replacement for existing analogue cameras at locations such as office receptions, or at the front of retail stores, where there is a requirement to capture evidence grade images of any activity,” said Tim Biddulph.
